Oh, and not forgetting this little classic..
It Must Be Love
I really have too much time on my hands!
I'm struggling to get this, the thread was about covers which DIVIDE opinion, are you saying this absolute classic is one of those?

Mc(ferking)Fly should be rounded up and stoned with copies of Setting Sons for this absolute travesty of covering That's Entertainment - not when you're singing it you talentless ugly, lisping motherferkers!

Weller, Foxton and Buckler (the Holy Trinity) show them HOW it was done that brought a generation to fall at their feet at their sheer brilliance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT7xvMi6pzE
Why such vitriol?
Sure, I much prefer the original. However what's wrong with a young pop band covering a classic and bringing it to a new audience? As a result they may go on to become fans of The Jam - surely a good thing.
Many of the bands I've liked have covered or name checked their influences in interviews which has led to me finding out more and expanding my taste and music collection.
Stop being so liberal hippy. Get a job and your hair cut and stuff.
I'm far from a liberal hippy, my hair is short and I (sadly) have a 'proper' job.
However I don't like musical snobbery.
I am honestly not just saying this to be argumentative - but I actually prefer the Scissor Sisters version...
OOOH, Mk, who's rattled your cage this morning? In all fairness, I don't think McFly were put together like that and they'd been working together for some time before hitting the big time. Surely you have to give them some credit for their song writing and musical ability? Surely you have to concede that they have more credibility than Boyzone or Westlife?
McFly and Credit in the same sentence .... sorry, but that doesn't hang right somehow !!!!!
Why not? McFly are nothing more than a cobbled together boyband by some record industry exec and money thrown at them until it stuck. It's this mentality that keeps "proper" bands who can make their own music get dropped after one album. The Clash, The Jam et al wouldn't survive in todays market because bands aren't given time to mature.
And as for "the kids" going out and seeking The Jam's works after hearing McFly butcher "Malice" I sincerely doubt it - they probably think that it's "their" song.
