No, just the one striker (Barnett) and Payne in behind him trequartista. Bring the extra man back into midfield in front of the back 3 and allow the fullbacks to bomb on. So either Deegan or Kamara

Trequartista, is that the same as a CAM, only a bit Italian? You know you're going to drive Rattus Norvegicus mad with these new terms, don't you.

Pretty much, Italian for three quarters. Anyone who plays football manager will be able to tell you it's almost a striker, plays advanced from a CAM or AMC

Is this a Mooney thread?
As it is, and you (and many others) don't mention him in your tactical masterpiece show, is it safe to understand from that, that you won't be putting him in a starting 11?

I think Mooney can still do a job for us, granted he doesn't fit in the same team as Payne but if he's injured or if we needed to play a more traditional top two he is a good passer of the ball and would work well in such a system with any of Hunt, Barnett or Loza.

He needs to be played to his strengths... like many of our players he is not done so! He is not a target man, nor is Hunt, nor was Piggot, Freddy or Barnard.

Mooney plays very similar to the way Barnard did imo, and we all know what happened with him. I think it will go the same way with Mooney, and tbh I must question why PB signed him taking into consideration the similarities between the two.

Anyone got any positives about this bloke?
Here is my try at it - he doesn't get booked for rash tackles; & sometimes the ref will give a free kick or pen when he falls over, but sometimes he will get a yellow for simulation.

well I've never been a striker before but in most games he does get himself into great goal scoring positions but very rarely finds the back of the net, if he played every game and we created 10 chances per game he might just put one of them in the back of the net:omg:

He likes the ball early and we don't deliver it early.

When we have - Col Ewe away, Burton at home - he finishes OK for me.

For Orient, as has been pointed out before, he scored goals from early crosses into the danger area.

Alas, until we have that quality of delivery, he'll just end up being a target man who, lets face it, is too lightweight to be any use at.

Last night, it was like his boot laces were tied together, he spent so much time on the floor.

But that's just not the style of football the manager wants to play.

Did we not research him before signing him?

I'm not convinced we do, because I'm not convinced PB knows the right style to play that will work.

He gets caught between the 'clean sheet mentality' and trying to be more adventurous, so covers both bases with his signings.

I think he realized Pigott wasn't up to it and having sold Corr it was a case of grabbing proven goalscorers and adapting them into whichever system he thinks will suit a given match.

So he picked up Mooney and Hunt from the few that were around.

His track record with strikers Isn't great at our club. How many goals has a striker scored for us this season. Nothing like enough.

Barnsley are on a roll because they have an out and out quality finisher in their ranks.

We just don't seem to have that and haven't since the days of Sir Freddy, in truth.

He was available, he was probably reasonably affordable, he was a bit of a 'name' rather than an unknown and we totally ignored Jonny Stokes' critique (not really surprising). As to whether his style was suited to our style, 'it might do, lets worry about that when/if he signs eh'?
