Eastwood & Kightly up front?......

I know it's an old piece of reasoning, but I really can't see Fred moving that far north unless it's to a Prem club. I know people will say he's "if he's really ambitious, he'll go anywhere if it's a bigger club", but I really do think he has far too many familial roots down here and I doubt, given the characteristics of the Romany clan, that he'd leave this area. If he's going to go this summer I can really only see it being to Charlton or Watford as I don't think he's done nearly enough over the last season to merit a move to the Prem. But I wouldn't let him go for and less than 2mil, possibly 2.5, if RM lets him go at all - which I doubt. It's not just about how much money his individual talents merit. It's also about how much he is worth TO US as a club, and even if his achievements last season only merit 1.5m, then you need to add another mil to that to represent what he's worth to us.

Well said, I have said that exactly before and we all know how Freddy likes to stick to his heritage. He will never leave his family behind. So Charlton/Watford seem the only options for him.

The Eastwood situation is a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned. Either he signs a new deal with us asap (and obviously I wouldn't blame him if he didn't) or we cash in now. As great as it would be to have Freddy for another season, there's no way the club can afford to lose someone of his talent for free, even if we are in a more stable position financially than we were a few years ago.

Although I'd value Freddy at around £2.5-3m, there's no way we are going to receive that much bearing in mind he only has a year left on his contract - even Tilson said so himself. £1.5m is about right and if Wolves offer that, we should accept. Then we have plenty of money with which to improve the squad all round and maybe offer higher wages too.

agree, he aint going nowhere plus r.martin wont sell him for less than 2m. if varney can go for 2m then eastwood can.
IMO if Varney sold for £2 Million Freddy is worth at least £3 Million.
I'd say so 100%, but how long did Varney have on his contract?

He is only worth what someone is prepared to pay. Otherwise, we could say that if Leicester bought Akinbiyi for £5m a few years ago Eastwood should be worth £7m now. Unfortunately economics dont work that way.

Higher prices are achieved when the seller is in a strong position. We aren't. We can either sell now or wait until January, when we will be in an even weaker selling position - or next summer and he goes for nowt.

Therefore if we want to sell when our position is strongest we should sell now, i.e. when he has a full year left on his contract and we still have a further selling opportunity with him under contract (January).

Unfortunately though, we can only sell him for whatever price hte buyer is willing to pay. If no-one is offering more than £1.5m then that is what he will be sold for. If no-one is offering more than £500k then that is also what he will be sold for.

The only calculation for the club to do is to weigh up whatever cash offer we may or may not receive this summer against our realistic chances for promotion this season, firstly without and then also with Freddy in the team. If we only received a £500k offer and the club felt on balance we would get promotion with him in the team - and only with him in the team - and that promotion would be worth £750k then they would probably choose to keep him even though he'd go for nothing in the Summer.

Remember though that the calculatoin is not based on the team as it is now, but the team we have in August - so it isnt a precise calculation at this point in time. Certainly not for us, but not even for the club as team strengthening hasnt been completed (or even started) yet.

That is a very risky strategy though: you may not get promoted and he may be so cheesed off at having to stay that he doesn't perform like we know he can.

Realistically it is impractical for a club of our size and status to keep a player like Freddy Eastwood. We are a club who have just been relegated to the third tier of english football with no garuntee of promotion next season. Eastwood is a player that could and will one day cut it in the premiership and it is ridiculous to think that he would be happy playing at his level when he and everybody else knows he can do better. If we keep an unhappy Eastwood it will be more detrimental to our chances of promotion than his sale. Freddy Eastwood will not spend his career at Southend United and the club will go on without him. He deserves to go and if he wants to the chairman should not stand in his way and i don't think Ron Martin would. We got Freddy for next to nothing and his value to us has been extraordinary, possibly worth at least 5 million to the club. He will be sold depending on what he is worth to this club and i calculate that it's around 1.5-1.7 million. This sort of offer would be accepted in my opinion.
In terms of wolves i think it makes sense. They have a class manager with some wonderful players. They have the facilities to compete in the premiership and i think come the end of next season they may well be there. freddy would be mad to turn down this oppertunity. It's not as though he is uprooting forever.

I think we will see no more than a million for freddy, any club in for him will know we have to sell now. I dont mean have to sell in a desperate for cash way but the fact is we have to sell now or lose a shed load if we hang on to him till jan for xample or worse lose him for nothing at end of season.

We are not losing money by not selling freddy? If he goes for nothing, what have we lost of the three years? Nothing. What have we gained? Not all to do with freddy of course but he's been key in getting us a new 22000 seater stadium (which lets face would never have happen if we were still in L2) and earnt the club about 5 million from promotions, cup finals, new sponsorship (due to promotion) and higher gate reciepts. Thats a very good investment.

No doubt we have done very well out of fred one of the greatest players in club history (certainly in my 25 years of supporting) and will have generally profited from his prescence but to maximise the profit we must sell otherwise it could potentially stop hundreds of thousands of pound coming into the club.

Personally i agree with you, in my opinion he should be sold now as it is too much of a gamble to keep him. Will RM? i don't know, i think he may go for it and keep him. if the offer is respectful but not amazing however If the offer is as i say is around 1.5 million i think he may have to accept.

Funny thing football ,there is no certainty that anyone gonna shell out on freddy and may be a non starter, if fred dont go could work out to be a huge kick up the **** and spur him on to goals goals goals, but got the feeling he gonna go.

Deserves to go if he wants to go in my opinon. I see him going which is very sad but i am pleased to have seen what may have been his last appearance for us, against plymouth.

Wolves want Southend striker Freddy Eastwood in a £1.5m deal but Molineux boss Mick McCarthy has warned Aston Villa and Everton off winger Michael Kightly. (The Sun)

Did you see the things next to that S_U_F? Luke guttridge set to join coventry and reject colchester! Shame really, i'd have loved him to **** that place up.

Saw this aswell this morning. Think this definately has some substance, what with the apparent bids we have put in for these 4 mystery players, the money must be coming from somewhere....

Most likley Freddy will have watched how Kightly has come on leaps and bounds at Wolves and knows that it is possible for him to do the same and become an important part of the team. I for one think Wolves are going places and will be a premiership team in a few years, which Freddy is probably also well aware of.
1.5 million is a little less than everyone probably expects but dont really think we are in a position to turn it down. As much as I will hate to see him go he deserves the move.
