Fossetts Farm Stadium in doubt

This is where I think we might suffer from being too close to London. Who is seriously going to consider staging such an event at FF when the O2 and other world-class venues, some of which are under construction for 2012, are a relative stones-throw away?

Rod Stewart played at Portman Road, why could we not gigs like that at the new ground?

Also, venue hire out the capital with such good rail links (2 lines) would be cheaper for the promoter, I imagine FF would be cheaper to hire for one night than the o2, the promoters don't care about how people get to and from the gigs, they want to make as much moolah as poss.

I was just about to say this. I can never see us holding ANY boxing events at FF due to the fact York hall, The Excel and The 02 are just up the road.

Then also i definitly couldn't see any concerts (especially big name superstars) being held here, again for the fact we have the likes of The O2, Excel, Wembley Stadium and Wembley Arena quite close

Anyone believing the difference in cost between building a 16000 seater and 22000 seater stadium is chicken feed are seriously deluded,

where is anyone saying this ????? Don't exagerate what is being said .

Also as I probably fall into your grass is blue statement can you please educate me as to why I should beleive the figures that you ahve come up with as opposed to what Ron says?

I wish to refer FF from now on as ..Ronaldtown,

Let the lesson begin

Some time back club officials thought a 12000 seater stadium would fulfill club needs,But the profits on such a small stadium were nice but not big fat juicy profits,Along comes Ronaldtown complete with a rather fetching 16000 stadium,Again profits were now very nice but not nice enough so the grand plan of Ronaldtown was a swanky 22000 stadium alongside housing, hotel, casino and various shops..Yummy the profits could feed all the little piggies.

22000 i hear you ask will it ever be filled?Judging by attendances during our seasons playing level 2 averaging around 7/8000 means plenty of empty seats for everyone.Ahh you say what about concerts and possible other revenue streams,Our leader to the best of my knowledge has never once stated the club will be rent free for many years or extra income will be give to the club from various resources in and surrounding Ronaldtown.

Being really cynical if Ronaldtown is ever built I have a sneaky feeling the little piggies will be running toward the hills.

Never mentioned extra income eh ?

Also bear this in mind, 10 short years ago, Southend United averaged 3960 fans per game and i'm sure that you as well as me were happy to see a crowd of 4500 in the hall.
Now last season that average was 7850 ! thats a 98% increase on just 10 years ago and i'm sure that was the target of Ron and the marketing team.
Now just imagine that increase were to happen in the next 10 years, that would mean that we'd be looking at an average of 15,500 which means that there will be games where 17 or 18 thousand people will be present but hang on if we only built a 16000 seater stadium this couldnt happen, mmmm i'd rather have empty seats than not enough......

Excellent Post. Even a similar growth in number over 10 years would take the average to 12000 - and bigger games / higher leagues would certainly increase it more.

As for staging events, i remember travelling to watch REM when the McAlpine Stadium first opened. I think we could get a few events - certainly U21 matches, but I also think a few music gigs / day festivals etc.

York Hall holds just 1,200 and the Excel 5,000.

Many big concerts have been held at venues much nearer to Wembley than FF would be.

I happen to agree with you that we won't see big name boxing or major concerts, but probably for different reasons.

i can see bands wanting to play there, just another date on the tour if the moneys right. these days live performance is the number 1 source of revenue for arists, i dont think any of the big artists wouldnt be able to fill it either, would need to be a whole new level of professionality/event management.
GK to madonna - "sorry madge your recent album sales have failed to live up to expecations" so bugger off and play in swindon"
madonna to GK - "fair play Geoff, caterings gone downhill since revs left anyway!"

That would be fine if the artists (of that magnitude) decided where or where not to play.

Football is a funny business including fickle supporters who come and go.When the likes of Leeds,Saints,Charlton,Norwich all ex prem clubs and all with very good support are playing the same level as us yet no large stadium or large support stopped them from playing league 1.

Last Friday against Leeds only around 8000 home fans attended for one of our mouth watering clashes this season,Go foward to when the new stadium is built and playing Leeds in the championship...Do you believe 15000 will attend? Sorry i dont..Maybe 11/12000 Max.

..Do you believe 15000 will attend? Sorry i dont..Maybe 11/12000 Max.

But thats my point blue shrimp, 10 years ago if you told me we'd be in league One averaging 8000 per game i'd have had you locked up ! And i'm sure if you think back that far you'd agree. We have the catchment to support 15000 per game so why not dare to think about it, especially as the new stadium will be modern with fantastic facilities with unrestricted views which is unlike Roots Hall which, lets be honest, is showing its age and a bit of a hole !

Was that from a very very reliable source ??

Stop **** stirring and say something concrete please

Mate, if i did put my concrete evidence down on this one it would be removed cos shrimperzone cant prove it, but i would be willing to meet you and tell you exactly what i heard from exactly who before our next home game.

You claim to be a Southend supporter Craig, but everything you post on here is negative. Why do you bother?

You obviously dont read all my posts then mate, i post what i hear good or bad mate, that dont affect my support for the club!

I don't make it my life's ambition to look at all your posts, no, it must just be that the negative ones stand out!

The trouble is, the negative posts are the ones that fuel the fires of unrest on here.
