As far a Freddy goes, I had great reservations about him returning. I still hope that it can turn out well and that he will become, if not the prolific goalscorer he was, at least a useful player in our squad. Have to say that I gave up on the 'last man standing' thread, when Freddy started to make a rather greater return than he has shown on the pitch.

Think that Laird got the OK to play in the Cup whilst Assombalonga was NO. This has led many of us on here to sadly believe that he will not be with us in the New Year.

Obviously we don't know who may come in to the club in Jan , but as it stands , Assombalonga will be a huge loss if he goes back.
I'm trying to make it easier by telling myself , he's 'gone off' a bit in the last few games and at least we got the best period from him.
But good players go through dips and I'm sure he'll be back - just not with us though...............
Still we do have Benyon as back up :'(

Whilst Fred was an excellent player during our promotion years, he hasn't been the same since November 2006 which was an awfully long time ago. Although he has contributed plenty to the club, I have never held him in the same tier of esteem such as club legends like Stan Collymore, Chris Powell, Spencer Prior, Dave Webb and Steve Tilson. Funnily enough I always remember Spencer Prior appearing on Sky TV the day after the Manchester United victory and he said Gary Hooper will become a better player than Freddy Eastwood which seemed barmy at the time, how right he was!

Spinner also said that James Lawson was one of the best academy products to come through the club.

So here we go again. The Shrimper Zone consensus getting its negativity dander up against yet another player. Ready to get on players' back as soon as they put in a bad shift, or fit their prejudice bill, or need games. All this site does at times is give false credibility to getting on players backs. The stupid attacks on players over the years is part of the reason we are where we are. Gower springs to mind as a perfect example. Freddie's position has to be behind the front two. His hold up play and distribution is excellent as evidenced on Saturday. If you couldn't see that you need to remove the blinkers or trip down to specsavers. The problem with the Zone is that it dosent necessarily reflect consensus of all supporters and yet it thinks it does. The collective personality of the Zone has created a near singular personality and is therefore a near voice of only one in the grand scheme of opinion on the terraces.

Most posts appear to lack a little patience. We would all love Freddy to be in top form but give him a chance. Look at how long we have waited for Corr to get fit. It must be hard for Freddy, two years barely played, played out of position and almost written of by his previous club. Now he is back at Southend and not quite firing but then when he was at his best he was our principal striker where as right now he has to slot in and allow Assombalonga to be the forward star. Time will tell but I believe he has the ability to be a very useful player again. We need to reignite the spark in him and get behind the lad.

How much longer do we need to give him?

It's been nearly six years now.

And in that time he has done more than Harris or Corr so why single him out?

We are talking about the 6 years since he left and came back and in that time has done zip. Corr scored more in one season than Freddy has in the 6 years since he left. Harris has played a big part at Millwall too. So you are wrong with your statement that Freddy has done more than Corr or Harris.

I'm glad that wasn't my 10,000th post. I want it to be a positive post and it will be

Every full time player has the ability to play anywhere when their manager sees fit,Fred seems to have gone through the motions and basically took his wages without breaking sweat,I for one thought when he left us he would go on to become a prolific top flight player yet he has not even notched up 100 league goals which is a travesty for his talent,The player must want to do it because nobody else will do it for him.

Goals since start of 2007 season

Benyon 50
Harris 45
Corr 35
Eastwood 26

You said he has had six weeks and then change it to the last five years to suit. If you want to get historical Freddy has done more for this club than anyone in your list. I also reckon he will do more again than anyone in your list.

Not sure you were watching the same game as me.
Freddys control of balls played into him was very good - agreed.
However , his speed of thought once he had the ball was painfully slow IMO.
Failed to get a shot or pass off quickly enough , and when he did , some of them were not great ( thinking of the ball he gave Tomlin in the first half ).
Contrary to your comments , people are getting on to him , and in fact he is one of the few who escape the negative comments on the pitch.
I would say that posters on here are expressing their frustration rather than anything else.
Most players in League 2 will have some limitations , but Freddy has a lot of talent.
Sadly , for whatever reason that may be , he does not seem to be using the best of it right now

Like you are sure in time Ron will provide sound investment in the team. Hopefully not after it is too late. In comparison with that More likely Freddy will deliver consistently. But I doubt that also.

Only time will tell with RM and only time will tell with Freddy. I prefer to hope for the best on both counts and if I am proved wrong I have lost nothing and cost nothing. You however seem to prefer the same level of judgement as people who read tea leaves. Your mind is made up about the future and if you are proved wrong you have lost enjoyment through negativity and cost who knows in terms of putting of supporters and loss of morale to the team?

Oh well so what. six weeks, six years, you are comparing Freddy to players who will never mean to this club what he does and will never contribute what he has. Give the boy a chance. The past is the past.[/QUOTE]

Exactly where his "status" is for me.

Sorry, but Freddy is not the player he was. His heart does not appear to be in it, if it was, I am sorry he would not be carrying the weight he is, which is affecting his game. Freddy is not a "playmaker" and he wasnt in the days of old. He was normally a selfish bugger that would make a chance to shoot from anyway - this is the Freddy I would have back, but I'm sorry that Freddy is gone !

Ron has been Chairman for for some 14 years I think. How much more patient? Yes we've had 2 promotions under his Chairmanship but wouldn't be nice if rising up the FL lasted without a helta skelta ride downhill in 3 years which is about as quick as you can get to a complete round u-turn bar a year. Constantly harping on about the future is vital in my eyes for if we don't we might not have one or certain people need reminding it will be nice to have a decent long term future. I think players aqctually understand the frustrations of fans . Try asking them if they are so understanding of Ron's actions and throw in asking the players of 2009/10 as well? Don't think your gonna like the answers Rab.
