Pretty much sums up this place that people are actually saying they DONT want to see us play at Wembley....:whistling:

I do want to see us play at Wembley in competitive games that have meaning.

I was absolutely delighted and it was a fantastic day when we got there first time even though the competition meant nothing.

Law of diminishing returns though, been twice in 3 seasons, I'd love to go again in the play offs or the FA cup, but the experience of going to the JPT would be far less again.

I'm sorry i just cant see how repeatedly getting to the home of football can be affected by the law of diminishing returns!

Of course the FA cup or the playoffs or the Champions league would be better but i'm more than happy to take all we can get.

Getting to the JPT finals has been very good for the coffers of the club and raised our profile.
What is not to like?
Or are those coming out with "competitive games with meaning" trying to show their supposed sagacity & gravitas; and obviously weren't at Borient (e.g) to see the competitive/meaning.
Probably listened on the radio.

If some of our fans genuinely DON'T want to see SUFC go on a cup run and end up at Wembley, then I think they've completely lost the plot. Watching your team play at the "home of English football" is one of the greatest feelings in football, and to see us go on a cup run and win a trophy that, in past years, we have not been able to do, would be a great feeling. Not to mention, a cup run would bring in a bit of money to the club (although I'd guess not very much!), which surely would be beneficial to our finances too.

I know some of you say "erm we been to Wembley Vs Crewe & Wycombe in play off, but I don't fancy going there again!" I say **** that, as I haven't seen us winning a trophy in a final at Wembley yet, now we are in League 1, if we reach the final, I would fancy us winning it!

I saw us win one in May, it was even on TV.

I'd love us to get to the final of the JPT again. Going to Wembley is always a costly experience as the wife and kids come but it's so worth it. Great atmosphere and family day out.

Daggers away would be the best option, 2nd place for me has to be Crawley town.. At Home.... anyone!.. bring it on!!

Looking forward to a good day of sport.. Soccer Am with the JPT draw, followed by the Southend game on sky, and f1 qualifying and then the England game!!

If only the Mrs just went away for a spa weekend or something, that would just put the icing on the cake!!

Crawley away please. I've been to all the others

The JPT is a totally meaningless competition.
Granted, we loved beating The O's and we loved reaching Wembley. We also enjoyed reaching Cardiff, especially against the clueless lot up the A12.
However, as a competion - what possible meaning does it have? None. Nobody bar the finalists cares who wins the thing.

As magnificent as our incredible day on May 23rd was - can you imagine if it was the first visit to Wembley since the war years?

JPT? POINTLESS waste of time. Sorry.

Blimey Kev, you've really shocked me with this assessment:omg:

But it is a completely and utterly pointless competition. We took loads to Wembley against the Alex - but virtually nobody got into the game itself. There was no atmosphere. Why?? Because it was a day out and nobody really had any passion for the stupid trophy itself.

Wembley should be saved for when it means soooo much. May 23rd meant soooo much. The game against Crewe Alex - meant absolutely nothing whatsoever.

I agree with your point about Wembley being saved. Doubly so in a competition like this where it's split geographically. Why not rotate the final venue between neutral Prem teams?

Our final against Crewe was especially bad because we conceded an excellent set piece (a short corner no less!) within 10 minutes then spent the next 5 minutes clapping the tragic loss of one of their players rather than roaring the team on. Never mind the dip in league form and the total farce surrounding Brown's appointment.

I think the trophy does have a place. It's nice for teams outside the top flight to get a chance at a cup run. Tickets are cheap and teams get to test themselves against others in a high division. Because it's based on regions fans usually don't have that far to travel either. Things that spoil it are the Soccer AM anthem stunt and the like.

Why? We have a realistic chance of making a Wembley final in the JPT..

Historically it has been very difficult for most teams to have a successful league run and a long cup run. My priority for us this season is to avoid relegation. A cup run is not going to help that aim. Wembley was special, winning at Wembley very special, but to me (and i fully appreciate and refuse to be rude to or criticise others who may have a different view) the JPT is a nothing trophy. For Southend realistically a good fa cup run would be getting to 5th round. However fa cup is still a good potential money spinner with decent payments for progressing and potential tv/radio income.

The JPT will be a damaging distraction, my memory is not great, but I recall on at least a couple of occasions we have lost good players (Timlin was one?) through getting injured in JPT ties and the year we got to the jpt final we missed out on the play offs.

As I say each to their own, but not for me.

Finally, a post I totally disagree with, delivered in such a way that I don't get the hump reading it. Well done and thank you. You're totally wrong, by the way.
