Kevin Maher

Hope King Kev finds another club, true legend.

Don't want him back here though, we've moved on now and there's no point going backwards, we had him at his peak and don't want him sullying my good memories.

Moved on to what? JFC's unique inability to pick a pass? Grant's inbility to attack?

He is the type of player we have been missing all season. Take those games against yeovil and crewe, especially the crewe game where they had ten men, yet we couldn't break them down. King Kev is the type of player that can grab a game by the scruff of the neck and dictate play. His vision and ability to pass a ball is exactly what we need, and i for one would have him back in a shot.

We lost 1-0 at home to dross as often with Maher, you know.

I find it really frustrating on this forum how everyone becomes a better player once they're not in our starting 11 or squad.

I would take that player back anytime too. But he's not that player anymore. He's 32 (only 2 years younger than Freedman), he dropped out of our first team 1½ seasons ago because he was playing poorly and now he's been released by Oldham. He's simply not that player anymore.

Kev is one my all time Blues heroes, but there's no point in having him back if he's a shadow of his former self.

Picking on Grant & JFC for not being Kev is unfair too. Yes JFC isn't a quailty passer but he's incredibly mobile and can pick a shot too. Granty might not attack much (remember his run v Chelski?) but again's he's incredibly mobile, tough and wins alot of freekicks. Kev was a superb passer and could set up attacks & pull the strings but didn't attack much himself, and was never very mobile. Also don't forget Moussa, who can pick a pass, as can Macca.

I'm not saying these players are better than Maher in his pomp (Moussa has the potential to be better tho) but they're better now, and work as a unit.

Kev was man of the match for me in the last away game at Oldham, I'm quite sure he'll get something.

but that would be the same team that included Freddy, Gower, Flavs etc. doesn't mean it was Mahers fault.

My point is Kev maher has a special ability, that at present no-one in our current team has. i.e. the ability to dictate and control a game

Interesting points. I know he wouldn't be the same player, but he could do a very good job for us. The crewe game i mentioned for example. After 60 minutes we were out of ideas and began to just huff and puff and hope something happened. I feel kev could of played the last 20-30 mins and produced that something extra what we were missing, as a 32 year old KM will be more dangerous than Grant/JFC/moussa (who i like as players) But thats just my opinion.

Oh and as for JFC's shooting... :D:D:D

Fair enough.

I don't think Kev will want to be a sub though, he's nearing the end of his career and will want to go somewhere he'll be first choice so I think league 2 will be blessed with his presence.

JFC - 5 goals in 34 apps for Blues (Goal every 6.8 games) not bad for a defensive midfielder, goal of the season and a cracker on last day of the season. (as opposed to Kev's 1 in 24 this season and blues career average of a goal every 17.84 games) :p ;)

PS. Would just like to add, if Kev did end up back here I would welcome him with open arms. Legend & future HoF'er.

The thing is we became incredibly easy to play against when Maher was in the team. Everything we did went through him, and teams wised up to it and man-marked him, negating our game totally.

Oldham Release Maher

BBC sport report that Oldham have released 5 players including "King Kev" and a certain Lee Huhges..........

Sign him up!
Would love to see him at Roots Hall again one day, a proper legend, lovely bloke. For me he is very similar to Christophe but JFC can't do some of the 40 yard passes Kev could. I have always wondered whether Tilly would have released him if he knew Bailey would leave.
Long live King Kev!

I bet Mildy is pleased that he won't be getting 40 yard back passes from Maher!!

I spoke to Kevin last week in Manchester. He was chuffed to bits with the reception we gave him at Oldham and we had a laugh about the corner he 'shanked' in front of the away end and gave us the thumbs up! A real genuine guy who could not praise the fans enough and was very happy to speak with me for a good 10 mins - in fact it was me who said I best be off! I suppose he would not have expexcted to be recognised in Manchester especially by a Southend fan approaching him!

Also saw him today in the same butty shop but did not approach him, if I had heard this news earlier I probably would have said something.

As I said above top guy and I am pleased I got the chance to have a good chat with him.

Please dont let the king go to any of the following

1) Orient
2) Colchester
3) Brighton

And I will be delighted for him.
