On December 5 2002, amidst much celebration, Ron Martin announced that a three-year extension to the lease on Roots Hall which had been signed after plans to move to a new stadium were back on after a deal had been struck with Lansbury. The original lease deal was due to end in March 2003 so does this mean that the three-year extension is due to expire in March 2006, just over 12 months away? In that case - and with no sign of any proposal to build a new stadium at Fossetts Farm being submitted to the council - are we to expect yet more indecision about whether the club is actually going to make it to the centenary in May next year?
Has Ron Martin and the rest of the cartel hidden deep inside Roots Hall (or wherever they may tend to lurk these days) actually been talking absolute bo11ocks after all? We've heard feck all since the announcement back in November that a deal has been signed for 20 acres of land on Fossetts. Surely it's not going to take just a single year to submit plans, have them accepted by the relevent parties, source and tender for construction, and then actually build the bloody thing?!
Are we heading down that certain creek yet again?
