BREAKING: Wise to quit Leeds?

Dennis Wise to quit Leeds?

BREAKING Dennis Wise's future as Leeds United manager was in serious doubt today with Newcastle United fighting to lure the 41-year-old to St James' Park.

The Premiership club are understood to have offered Wise a position within Kevin Keegan's regime, and sources on Tyneside suggest Newcastle officials are confident of completing a deal subject to agreeing compensation with Leeds.

Wise's roll at St James' Park would equate to that of a director of football, providing him with influence over most aspects of the Newcastle's operations but giving the former Chelsea midfielder no input into the day-to-day running of the club's squad. Keegan is not believed to be interested in recruiting Wise as his assistant manager.

Leeds were indicating today that they still expect Wise to be in charge of the Elland Road club for tomorrow night's League One clash with Southend United at Roots Hall, but it is believed that Newcastle have made United's manager aware of their interest, and they are waiting to discover whether he will accept a move to Tyneside.

United have already lost former assistant manager Gustavo Poyet to Tottenham Hotspur this season, and Wise's departure would disrupt the club at a crucial time with 18 league matches remaining.

Leeds climbed to within a point of second position in the League One table after their 1-1 draw with Luton Town on Saturday.

intersting... Southend to be Wise's first, and last oppostion at the helm of Leeds?

Why I care, I don't know but DIRECTOR OF FOOTBALL!!!! With what experience (or qualities) can they seriously want him?

One bap to rule them all then?

...but Tilson's a Leeds fan we know.... he could be sniffed after as a replacement.... :(

Not a chance. They would insist upon a 'name' manager. And Ken Bates would go for one of his 'mates'. Hoddle would be a possible, I think - unless he goes back to Southampton.

I just get nervous when managers are sacked / leave.....

Hmmm ... the Leeds Utd wheels, if not coming off, have started to loosen without the influence of Poyet. Wise going while the going is good?

We hate Wise, and would be glad to see the back of him. It's the impications there after that we are more concerned with. Namely:_

1) Bassett
2) The plundering of Leeds United by the Barcodes a second time.
3) Who will work with Bates? Hoddle, no thanks. Besides he supposedly busy with his academy shool out in Spain.
4) Gannon. WHo? The coach at Leeds United.
5) The continuation of our slide down out of the play off positions.

Those are just a few for a starter

This is the one I'm hoping for to be honest.

Gannon is highly thought of throughout football though & surely just a matter of time before somebody takes a punt on him as a manager a la Boothroyd (& even Blackwell)

Didn't realise Leeds hated Wise like the rest of us (other than his Chelsea history), thought if he took you back up you'd all look upon him as some kind of saviour!

The Leeds fans were calling for his head throughout the game at RH last March, or was it April - how time flies.
