Loanee Watch 2021-22

Great to see so many of our youngsters going out on loan at last
Covid really hampered this the last few years but we’re definitely making a push to get them out and playing.

I’m intrigued as to what extent this is Maher or Danny Heath. I know Stan said Kev had a plan to get everyone minutes, not sure if that filters as far down as the Scholars - Stan did say it was detailed!

Does anyone know how many loanees Wakering/Isthmian League teams can field from the same club?
Luke Reeve and Jaden Crowhurst are already there on loan.

The FA Standardised Rules (which cover the Isthmian League) state: “No more than four (4) Players (Short Term, Long Term or [Youth]) may join one Club from another Club (or club) in any Playing Season. [An additional Youth Loan Player may be added to this figure.]” (Rule 6.6.1)

Further to this, Rule 6.4.8 states: “A Club may name up to a maximum of five (5) players on a Team Sheet who are either Short Term Loan, Long Term, [Youth Loan] or Work Experience.”

There is a limit of two Short Term Loans and two Long Term Loans from one club to another at the same time, but there’s no limit stipulated in regards to Youth Loans or Work Experience Loans.

Right back, centre back now left back, can’t we lend them another central defender?

With a large part of the U18 squad out on loan this surely means that the U18's starting XI now must now largely be made of U16's lads.

Could this also be an indicator in the coaches highly rating the current U16 crop so willing to give them this exposure?

Just a thought

I would think this is the start of a completely different approach to way the Club deals with the young players. It has been well documented that funding for the Academy will be greatly reduced next season and the Club are not in a position to make good the shortfall. Hence there will have to be changes.

Will definitely be good experience for the youngsters.

I like our approach loaning out our youngsters like that.

As we are non league we only have 5 subs so can't throw in some youngsters on the bench unless we have more subs

Oli Coker was in action for struggling East Thurrock who visited Folkestone, who were trying to go 3rd in the Isthmian Premier. No Brian Garzon on the bench. East Thurrock fell behind just before half-time but equalised on the hour. Folkestone retook the lead shortly after from the spot. Oli Coker came off as part of a double substitution on 73 minutes. East Thurrock conceded a third soon after.

Ergis Shala, who played for Carshalton at the weekend wasn’t in their line-up today.

Great Wakering had 3 young Shrimpers for their game against Coggeshall, with Luke Reeve, Jaden Crowhurst and a debut for Louie Arrowsmith. A win would take them level with their visitors in the Isthmian North but like Thurrock, Wakering fell behind just before half-time. Like Thurrock they equalised second half - from Arrowsmith’s cross - and like Thurrock there was a penalty soon after. However this penalty was for Wakering and gave them the lead. Alas two minutes into injury time former Blues u23 triallist Jamal Balogun headed in from a corner to deny them all 3 points. Great Wakering remain in 16th and their opponents edge up to 13th.

Walthamstow were rained off.

Just on Tendi Quamina at Walthamstow, he’s appeared twice so far, as a very late substitute on both occasions. His debut came in the 89th minute of a 3-0 home win against Ilford, and he then was introduced in the 81st minute of a 2-0 victory away to Sporting Bengal United. He wasn’t in the matchday squad for the goalless draw against Stansted at the weekend.

Given the clubs are part-time and only training probably two evenings a week - if the matches don't clash - can they do both SUFC U18's and their loan club matches?

You'd imagine so. I know our U23 players out on loan do that.

Regulation-wise, when players are on a work experience or youth loan they can return to play non first-team matches for SUFC during the period of their loan (more so with the U23s than the U18s as the U18s generally play on Saturday mornings), but part of the purpose of the players going out on loan is for them to gain experience in senior football and the challenges that brings, playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday and playing for points (they get that to an extent in the U18s, but it is still development football).

It's part of trying to bridge the gap between youth team football and what they'd expect to encounter in our first-team environment. Those players going out on loan also allows other players to step up (the first-year scholars that haven't had so many opportunities in the U18s in the early part of the season and then the U16s that will be starting their scholarships in the summer and integrating them into the new group).

Miles Mitchell-Nelson back out on loan, this time to Canvey in the Isthmian North.

Only a couple of places below his former side East Thurrock United who are struggling in the Isthmian Premier.

I believe this is his fourth spell out on loan with the previous sides being Harlow Town, Brightlingsea Regent, ETU and now Canvey. Could be more?

He was on loan at Canvey for a month earlier this season before going to East Thurrock. Tracking loan spells is a nightmare which is what promoted this thread in the first place. Players often turn up somewhere unannounced and there’s often no official record.

Playing for multiple teams seems to be the way in non-league as well. Teams have small squads so cover may be needed if someone is injured for a month. There also seems to be a dual registration thing whereby a player can be on two clubs’ books at the same time.

Jimmy Wallace, Tommy Davis, Demaray Anyadike, Bobby Unwin and Ergis Shala have all played for multiple clubs on loan this season and that is just amongst the third scholars!

Canvey should be a good move for him and for the club: Canvey are top so games will be meaningful and it won’t hurt the club to have a team they have a good relationship with (remember Benno was their manager until a few months ago) in a higher division. Let’s hope it works out for all parties.

Would love the communication to be better but I know non-league and thats just how it is!! Especially with the Media dept. of most clubs being volunteers/part time

The SUFC Youth account on twitter is terrific. As fans we are very fortunate to have that and it puts to shame the twitter accounts of many a non-league side.

Ergis Shala has left Carshalton

He made his debut 12th Feb as a half-time sub against Lewes. He was booked on 65 minutes and then received a second yellow for fouling Michael Klass.

He made his full debut for Carshalton 15th Feb against Horsham and then seemingly a final appearance 26th Feb.

National league

Josh Coulson played in Kings Lynn’s 2-2 draw v Solihull Moors

National League South
Matt Rush got the start for Chelmsford at Havant & Waterlooville. The Clarets lost 2-1.

ANG was injured and missed Ebbsfleet’s clash v. Bath.

No Tommy Davis for Welling.

Southern league Prem South
Hendon were at Gosport Borough but no Kinali.

Farnborough were at Beaconsfield. Rob Howard got the start but Egbri was on the bench. Howard was subbed on 75 minutes and Egbri came on 89 minutes to see out the 2-1 win.

Isthmian Prem
Bowers were at Bognor Regis with Tayo Adedoja on the bench. Bognor played 87 minutes with 10 men and Bowers 73 minutes as the referee made some apparently interesting decisions. Tayo Adedoja was an 88th minute sub in a 2-0 win.

Oli Coker was presumably suspended for East Thurrock’s trip to Enfield following his debut red card. No Brian Garzon either. East Thurrock lost 3-0.

Isthmian North
Witham played Friday night. Jimmy Wallace was originally credited with the only goal of the game just before half-time but it was later corrected. Witham won 1-0. It moved Witham up to 17th.

Demaray Anyadike played for Hullbridge agains tHashtag. Hullbridge lost 3-1.

Canvey, Aveley and Great Wakering were rained off.

Essex’s Senior League
Walthamstow were at Clacton. Tendi Quamini was on the bench
