Most expensive ever XI

**Random post update**

GK: Jim Stannard (50,000)
RB: Gary Poole (350,000)
LB: Mark Stimson (25,000)
CB: Peter Clarke (300,000)
CB: Keith Dublin (100,000 plus Tommy Mooney)
CM: Mike Marsh (500,000)
CM: Keith Jones (175,000)
RW: Paul Byrne/Steven Clark (50,000)
LW: Richie Foran (150,000)
CF: Andy Thomson (250,000)
CF: Andy Rammell (150,000 plus Dave Regis)

I am actually a big fan of Keith Dublin and think he comes in for a lot of unwarranted criticism on this board, but even I can't defend paying £100k PLUS Tommy Mooney the other way for him - that has to be one of our most expensive signings in terms of "opportunity cost".

:(

Wasnt Derek Payne thrown into that deal as well? Ie we got Dubbers they got two players?? Still guess you cant put a price on a centre back who can play upfront.....

Depends on how you value Dave Regis really. Well, it doesn't, but his inclusion in here does!

Dave REgis was in a rich vain of form before we sold him to bring in 'Rambo'. Id have thought his value would have been at least a £100k in real terms....however...in these swap deals is there any tax saving or the like in having the deal valued as low as possible? THerefore the 'official' value may have been less?

And what was Bailey's official fee?

Not many of them featured in any of the recent "best/legend" threads did they?

Regis was valued at £100,000 in that deal.

He'd just scored 15(?) league goals in the championship, which wasn't a bad effort in a poor team.

Werent we in the play off positions when he left though?! Im sure around the time we beat Millwall and their Russians we were flying high and they commenced their free fall....our free fall didnt start till Rammell came in...

Just as a footnote, transfers in the early 90s are obviously worth more with inflation and as I'm such a good lad, I've worked out some approximate multiplication factors (assuming Jan of each year to be the inflation for that year).

Annual % Compound Mult factor
2007 4.2 1.49 1.00
2006 2.4 1.43 1.04
2005 3.2 1.39 1.07
2004 2.6 1.35 1.10
2003 2.9 1.32 1.13
2002 1.3 1.28 1.16
2001 2.7 1.26 1.18
2000 2 1.23 1.21
1999 2.4 1.20 1.23
1998 3.3 1.18 1.26
1997 2.8 1.14 1.30
1996 2.9 1.11 1.34
1995 3.3 1.08 1.38
1994 2.5 1.04 1.43
1993 1.7 1.02 1.46

Really? I always thought that Sussex flattered to deceive... and bearing in mind we had spent £100-150K on Ooh Bretty Angell, Sussex (by comparison) always struck me as a bit of a disappointment... never produced the goods where it really mattered.

But then again, I suppose you are a rather strange individual who seems to think that a striker's worth should be measured in anything but his goals-to-games ratio...
