Mulgrew (not signing)

You can't judge Ron Martin's stance on this until Mulgrew's future is finalised. If Martin gets the deal done he is fully vindicated, if it collapses then he can be vilified. Until then you can't call it.

:D

Since when has that stopped anyone judging the club's performance on these boards!

:soapbox:

I agree with this. Mulgrew's height makes him a useful addition at the back but he really isn't a very good defender and particularly vulnerable when up against a pacey winger

You could have easily said the same about Dean Austin and Justin Edinburgh (except height obviously) but that didn't stop Spurs buying one and then realising he was cack coming back for the other one just to keep their reputation for weak defence but great entertaining football alive.

'cant say where I heard this but Mulgrews agent has told at least SUFC fan that Mulgrew will NOT be playing for Southend this season!! Lets hope he is wrong!'

This sounds like bad news if true. How good is reliable is this source SI?

Well, at least now if the Eastwood rumour was true, thats no longer an issue. It's now simply down to agreeing a fee. Anything below 150k sounds good to me.

From what I've heard I'd say that's very unlikely to be true. Thankfully.

I think we'll have more of a chance of getting Mulgrew now Freddy has left Wolves.

If we get a sell on clause we will use some of that money plus the money we got for Hooper and Charlie Mac we have a nice transfer kitty growing as we haven't paid any money for a player yet and the ones we have brought in have looker good.

''Agreeing the £150,000 fee remains the only stumbling block'' ,Absolutely unbelievable ,we pay so much money with no haggle for crap players (usually because they are so bad and we bid miles too high so they snatch our hand off on the first offer and laugh all the way to the bank) ,and then we won't go the extra mile for a player that is clearly different class and most definately under priced .

But lets not tell anyone eh ?!

I have to admit to being baffled by the club's stance on this. Ron may feel he got mugged by Wolves over Freddy, and is now digging his heels in on the basis that he wants to get one back over them.

Of course, that is pure conjecture on my part. But if it is true, then it is as wanton an act of cutting off our nose to spite our face as I've seen in a while.

If we lose Charlie over this - and we almost did with Swindon - then we will all bitterly regret it.

Of course, it may be that Charlie has told us that he's coming come what may, and in that case it's Wolves being stubborn - and refusing to come to terms with the fact that Charlie is doing to them (pledging his future to Southend and waiting for Wolves, eventually, to drop their asking price) what Freddy did to us (pledging his future to Wolves and waiting for Southend, eventually, to drop their asking price).

If that is the case, then Moxey needs to grow up. You win some, you lose some... what goes around comes around... etc. etc. Besides, they knocked a lot more off Freddy's value than we'll be knocking off Charlie's.

Either way, someone needs to bang heads together and sort this out, because this is doing no one any favours - it's disruptive to both Wolves' and our preparation.

Hey ho. Let's hope they all grow up and have a reality check soon.

Matt

Unless of course Wolveworths have decided to keep him (!)

According to sky sports, McCathy wants Michael Gray to sign a new contract. Mulgrew isn't going to get much of a look in next season by the looks of it, so unless he gets an offer from a CCC side, he might as well sign for us.

Also they now have Daniel Jones back from his impressive loan spell at Northampton and McCarthy says he would like to give him a chance to break into the the first team.

I dont think he'll get any offers from CCC teams, not that i dont think he'd good enough. I just feel that clubs in The Championship will possibly be looking "international" players or more experienced players.

Mulgrew is good enough to play every week in the Championship hopefully he'll come to us and be playing the the CCC very soon with us.

Well done Ron, quibble over a couple of quid and look what happens!!!

Oh well, we will probably fork out a fortune for a useless left back now...a la the crap striker syndrome from last season etc..

This is ****ing redicolous, if this is down to the board been tight arses I am very ****ed off with them.
