Mulgrew (not signing)

very disappointed with the news of mulgrew not signing we now need a left back and a decent set piece taker!

we need someone who when we get a free kick on edge after furlong/barnard has been fouled who actually looks like scoring every time

marc bridge wilkinson

left back with quality free kicks - dawson from hull

Mulgrew & Last Night

Just read loads of negative comments on Mildenhall and yes he was at fault for the first goal but he has all the attributes to succeed and I think he looked good in the first half against Fulham. He will get better and if the defence listen to him there will be an improvement. At least he talks!

Not getting Mulgrew is a bigger concern as from last nights performance Sankofa has poor positioning and more than a little attitude. His distribution was poor and is nowhere near an adequate replacement. The team seemed very reluctant to pass to him so they must share my lack of confidence. Herd is not ready yet but has potential.

First half I thought we looked good and yes Barny should have scored, he seemed caught between a low shot or a chip and in the end made it easy for the keeper. Bailey was brilliant with his run, making space well and again, should have scored.

The best player on the park in my opinion was Damian Scannell and I would have liked to have seen him on for the second half providing crosses for Furlong.

The Mousse played well and with confidence but we do need someone who can cross the ball. Corners were taken by the Mousse and were not bad.

Scannell will not be able to do the wingers job on his own so we need backup.

Having seen most of Walker's games I felt he was poor last night but I know he can do better.

The rest of the team played ok without anything particularly spectacular.

I know it is pre-season and no one played upto 100% capacity but we do seem to lack that little bit of spark and I cannot see that something special coming from any of the players on show last night. Scannell looked the most exciting player and if he can maintain good form throughout the season then he could be the man.

Lastly the attendance was poor for last night and there was little atmosphere, some of the diehards I know refused to come to the match due to the cost.

Surely it would have made more sense to lower the prices, perhaps £10 for adults and £2 for concessions, to have a larger crowd especially as this was only a friendly where none of the players were pushing themselves too hard.

Fulham looked, as was the case, as if they had just returned from the summer break. Bullard and Murphy were very classy and if they keep fit with the addition of Zamora upfront then they won't struggle as they did last term in the Prem.

Looking forward to the rumoured signings....come on Ron and Tilly splash that cash!

Obviously very disappointing news about Mulgrew but it sounds like he wanted to return to Scotland.

A few people have mentioned Daniel Jones and he would be absolutely ideal but I think Wolves see him as a potential first team player this season so I very much doubt he's available, even on loan.

I wonder if Tilly may go for Chris Powell again? I know he's tried to get him in before, and if it's true Chris wants one more season as a player then where better to enjoy it than at the club whose fans worship him?

he chose to go to elsewhere it is as simple as that, I dont think anyone is to blame, I believe aberdeen was touted as a possible for him long ago, he wants to push for the national team etc etc think it unfair to blamr RM as he probably offered mulgrew terms and charlie decided to a: go home b: to play in the top flight(scottish I know)

He chose what is one of the most boring leagues in Europe, where they all play each other over and over and over and over again, including Cups (yawn).
Also a league that is now totally dominated by the Top Two, (yawn), and the standard of the chasing pack is about our League Two.

Truly gutted about Mulgrew, but surely none of us would be disappointed if Sir Chrissy Powell returned? Besides, Powell could teach Herd a thing or two about being a left back... could work out very well indeed?

Matt

If Mulgrew had signed for another League 1 club then I'd be upset / disappointed / peed off / all of the above, but he's from Scotland, and now he has a young family he wanted to move back to Scotland - no complaints from me

But can you seriously see him coming back? Or even us going in for him?

For once I am going to defend the club here. In this instance I think it is clear that CM wanted to go back to Scotland. With a young family they prob jsut wanted to be close to home which is perfectly understandable. I don't think us splashing a big fee on him would have made a lot of difference. He may have stayed this season but felt unsettled and home sick and a player like that is no good to us.

Good luck to him, gutted that we didn't get him but think that it is very harsh to slag off the club when we don't know all the facts on this one. If the club comes out and say we didnt sign him because of not being able to agree a fee then go in for the kill. Until we get something more clear cut we can't judge.

Blimey. I agree with Leeboy.

Whilst the SPL may not be great, its still a bigger draw than the third division, especially for a Jock.

Yes to both, with Tilly and Dean Austin - two of his former team-mates - now prominent figures at the club.

Depends what sort of role he's been offered at Charlton, and depends on whether he still wants to play first-team football or whether he now wants to take a more coaching-based role.

It wouldn't surprise me, though. He won't be a first-teamer at a Championship club, given his age - 39 in September.

It's not as far-fetched a thought as it has been previously, put it that way.

Matt

You can't blame Tilson for walking out on SUFC. I'm one of Tilly's biggest critics etc, and imho you can't blame him moving to another club which has bigger ambitions, and some actual money to spend.

How many times are we going hear about this war chest that Tilson has at his disposal?

Where's the money gone Ron?

Gone down the tubes with economy, look at the papers. Ron's business is suffering and he has to scratch around to find money to build a stadium which we have received planning permission for just when the banks cut back on lending and demand for retail outlets/hotel/flats is declining.

Forget the war chest we have to survive until the expected recession recovers. Don't expect any big money signings, look out for free transfers this season.

That's not really the issue though YB - If we had sorted this out at the end of last season, rather than letting ti get to the middle of Jiuly without signing him, Aberdeen would not have even entered the equation. Not the first time we have missed out because of our apparent dragging of heels - although not being in full effect of the facts, I don't know the exact scenario.

What is interesting is the rumoured price tag - £80,000? I understoof that we weren't prepared to pay the asking price of £150,000, and now he's gone for nigh on half that - who's telling porky pies here?
