Colchester Shrimper
Coach
Bloke behind me on his mobile saying Blair had been useless as normal. Strange that, cos we thought he had a decent enough run out. Bentley did pretty well in goal, confident and good shouts, maybe one of the clearances he could have caught but that's only a slight criticism. Thought Hall had a creditable go at being left back, won several headers as well as defending fairly well. Pat Baldwin was commanding and constantly coaching Furlonge, who was a bit hit and miss at times. He has the ability but sometimes his decision making was a bit off. Really very impressed by the lad from Southampton, well, defensively anyway...made a bit of a **** up when having a brief surge forward. Ferdinand in centre mid looked pretty disinterested, and it made me think, does he ever go whole heartedly for a tackle? Blair alongside, looked far more in control and tried to link well with the forwards and with Dailly, who was unbelievable for a bloke his age, really very impressive the amount of running he got through. Crawford on the other side was less impressive, typical Crawford performance, lots of effort but not much product. Which brings us to the two up front, you could see a touch of class about Vine, there were some very neat skills and some good efforts to set others up as well as making himself better placed for a shot than when others decided to have a go themselves. I'd hope that's not enough to make a decision on though, and think they need to see him again. Anto Flood reminded me a lot of He Whose Name Must Not Be Spoken in the way that he does everything wholeheartedly...galloping all over the place, pushing people in his way and challenging for everything. There is real raw talent there and if it can be channelled rather more successfully than with BM, I think he's a really good prospect.
Finally the ref, an old favourite of ours I think, Andy Woolmer. Missed a blatant handball in their penalty area following on from a shot, and a few others during the course of the game, but allowed it to flow so not too bad.
Barry Mannilow...?
