Ron provides another managerial update

I'd be amazed if it's AB. Think it's fairly nailed on to be HL.

If the Chairman appoints Henrik Larrson, it will be a bigger and more expensive gamble than the one he took with Kevin Bond. I think it extraordinary, given Southend's dire situation, that HL even made the shortlist. There is too much wishful thinking at the Boardroom level. Of course, a formerly great player may become a great manager. But given the opportunities that Larrson has had already in Sweden he should be able to point to an improving managerial track record. To date, that has not occurred.

I'd be more than happy with Sol. He did an unbelievable job last season. They were talking about him on SkySports the other day, stating how he'd worked a genuine miracle.

He'd be used to limited facilities and resources. He'd also be used to players of the lower leagues and the mentality that they come with.

The fact he was a top class defender would hopefully help our current defensive crisis.

Andy Cole was one of the best strikers in the premier league era. What a privilege for our strikers to learn from him. Again, can only be a good thing.

People will talk about the personality of Sol; I personally couldn't care less. Our current 'players' lack so much believe. Maybe a self assured presence is something that they need.

One thing is for sure, I cannot be any worse!!!!

At the end of the day its Ron Martins call
Larsson has managed 3 clubs in Sweden so has experience as a manager and must have made a big impression on Ron for him to spend so much time with the guy and then fly to Stockholm for more talks and to meet his back room staff.
Whoever gets the job its going to be a huge gamble no guarantees of success with anyone.

I think there's a possibility Ron may have had a change of heart and doesn't want to make a mistake.
Maybe with events at Millwall last week it has thrown a spanner in the works.

I would be over the moon with Barrett, ecstatic with Campbell and slightly concerned with Larson. But whoever it is needs a fair crack of the whip, so three games it is then.

An interesting observation. Perhaps Barrett's successful managerial debut with Millwall against Leeds last weekend has helped weaken some of the doubts that the Chairman possibily had about AB - that he might be too raw and perhaps not ready in terms of organisation and judgement to take on the top job. Personally, I think Barrett and Tilson would galvanise both the players and the supporters, and neither of them strike me as naive or mugs about enforcing discipline. And discipline is what is required if Southend are going to dig themselves out of the currrent mess.

Ron says he will give the fans his reasons for appointing the new manager. He knows that Larsson will not be a popular choice and his statement is likely to try and give the fans some reassurance. If he was going to appoint Adam I doubt if he would be considering doing anything similar, he knows most fans would be delighted. Unfortunately it looks like Larsson will be the successful candidate.

Yes, I read it that way too but I hope things have changed since Ron wrote that statement and he now feels differently.
