Southend Engimas....

Does Clarkey still work at Icons with SlipperDuke?

:D

Yes, he does. I'm sure he'd be delighted to know he's still thought of fondly by the Roots Hall faithful.

:)

No thread about enigmas is complete unless the name Lee Hodges is mentioned - a player whom Thurrock fans knew as "The Enigma". So much talent, but ultimately had no idea what to do with it. David Lee and Steven Broad would also fit into that category.

As for Barrington Belgrave.... are you havin' a laugh?! The only enigma was how the hell we were ever persuaded to part with £40K for the useless lump!

:guns:

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Ben Abbey. Southend's very own version of David Platt (albeit in a different position). He was sh!t but he kept scoring goals so couldn't be dropped.

Scott Houghton, Scott Forbes and the other balding winger who's name escapes me but who demanded ridiculous wages. Three people who started off fantastically then got worse every week.

I'm glad no-one's mentioned David Morley in this thread. He may have had some shockers but he was rarely played in position and could never be accused of not giving 100% when he was surrounded by a team half full of wage grabbers.
