Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Wrexham

A

Agreed it was marginal and in hindsight probably the correct decision but why he never flagged is the baffling part and they got a player booked for shouting at him

But then bizarrely they decide to change their mind , the ref was weak
The lino didn’t give nor did the ref. Only after being surrounded by Wrexham players did they suddenly agree they were both wrong. You desperately want to think it wasn’t fear of the Hollywood Twitter feed that prompted them both to agree they were both wrong…

A few points from myself on the game

Wrexham are the Man utd of non league, officials are scared and put under pressure to give decisions their way....end of

Wrexham a complete waste of money looking at that team performance today, but they will be up there at the end

For me the game didn't live up to much , and was not as good as the home game last season but thats just my opinion

although you can shout and scream at the officials Southend still had 90 minutes to have tried to win the game and we didn't , so still more hard work to do in that department

good 1 minutes silence observed , as for the national anthem I find it so funny people get so uptight with it all, can't remember the last England game when the England fans haven't booed the opponents anthem

I don’t want to defend the officials as they were pony, but VAR would of ruled the goal out for handball.

What was the game a few years back when we had a goal disallowed after the opposition intimidated the official into changing his decision?

Anyway that’s the thing with this reality TV show Wrexham are now doing, we went off script and a quick call to the producers and the goal was chalked off.

Thought Noor was superb and a really good team performance.
That was a cup game wasn’t it - Turner score- even more onside than Hyde. Referee had the balls to apologise afterwards ( he was let down by an imbecile of a Lino). Cold comfort- wrong team still went in the next round draw.

I think Hyde deserves a lot of credit today considering so many have slated him before he’s even had a chance. I thought he did very, very well and will undoubtedly provide us with something we’ve missed.
Did well to make sure he stayed onside for his goal to…

Really good performance. If Maher was looking for a reaction after Chesterfield then he definitely got it. We looked like we were up for it far more than they were and were the better team by a long way. Dackers looks a decent addition and had two good chances in the first half, the second of which he has to be scoring. First proper look at Hyde too and I thought he was really good. Not the biggest, but looks like an experienced pro who knows this level well and will do well.

Collin, 7 - is getting better and better. You’d have never thought he was an inexperienced 19 year old after that performance. He oozed confidence.
Gus, 6 - another who will get better with games. Some good crosses and constantly found space.
Hobson, 8 - great performance. Really solid and that bit of skill in the middle was different class.
Lopata, 8 - commanding, leading and didn’t put a foot wrong. I don’t think it would be getting carried away to say we’ve got the best centre back in the league.
Kensdale, 6 - calm and assured, as we’ve come to expect from Ollie.
Ralph, 6 - great to have him back and didn’t look like he struggled. Hopefully the injury is well behind him.
Miley, 6 - no fireworks, no disasters. One of the first names on the team sheet at the moment.
Husin, 7 - another it was great to see back. I mentioned on another thread that Noor would be the box to box midfielder we need and he was exactly that. Got stuck in, but played more advanced than Miley and had a really good game.
Mooney, 8 - was a thorn in their side all afternoon. Ran at them, twisted and turned them and made things happen.
Hyde, 7 - liked the look of him and he looked like he was well up for it. We won’t talk about the absolute bullshittery of his disallowed goal.
Dackers, 6 - should’ve scored in the first half but for a weak header. But looks a threat and won his fair share of headers.

Fonguck, 6 - did some good things, but now Husin is back it seems he’ll be more of an impact sub. And a good one at that.
Wreh, 7 - really like him. For a big lad he’s really good with his feet. Cut inside and hit one on his right which was about to nestle in the bottom right corner before a deflection.
Bridge, 6 - was the right change to make against tired legs. Made a decent impact and always looks dangerous.

Ref, 0 - ****.

Wasn’t massively impressed with Wrexham to be honest. Looked like they had quality but for a team that you expect to walk this league, I wasn’t remotely blown away. Not sure if that was them playing badly, us playing well, or a combination of the two. But I would’ve snapped your arm off for a point today before a ball was kicked.

Can anyone say why the ref walked over to the lino?
When the film footage cuts away to celebrating Blues, he's walking back up the pitch.
When it pans back, he's talking to the lino, who has yet to raise his flag.
Are they mic-ed up at this level? I don't think so.
So, was it Wrexham players insisting he went and consulted with the flag man?

Did I see Parkinson and Hyde exchanging heated words with each other during a break in play late in the first half? I may have been mistaken. In any event I think he was definitely up for it.

What a frustrating one to draw. Take away Powell, and you lose chances overall and I think that's what ultimately may have cost us three points today. Also how do you judge a reaction to a 3-2 defeat after you've gone 1-2 up, to a 0-0 draw? Good PR for Maher and co, cos our lads put in a decent shift, if that's what he wanted. Otherwise, it's a chalk and cheese comparison.
We had some chances but there weren't any real sitters we missed and the Wrexham keeper dealt well with what he had to. Chance creation ultimately cost us.

Husin slotting back in naturally, was great to see. Miley is quickly becoming my favourite player in the team after another MOTM appearance for me today. Łopata cements a solid back line and that unit can only get stronger from here. Was impressed by Kensdale, compared to the past few games where I felt his standard had dropped. Collin's best game yet: calm, composed and effective. No criticism for Gussy, personally. Wrexham neutralised Dackers's threat effectively. Hyde is still feeling his way back in, so no criticism there either. We're going to miss Ralph's balls into the box and offensive and defensive heading, when he picks up an inevitable injury in a few weeks' time.

Mooney, though, still beyond me what he provides that can be considered game changing. Would we have lost the game without him? Probably not. Would we have won the game with Bridge or Powell starting ahead of him? I reckon probably so. Time for Maher to take a chance on Powell or Bridge ahead of Mooney, if he hasn't given it serious thought already. We can't afford to have someone who can't offer much defensively when Miley and Husin or Fonguck are thinly spread, during opponent attacking breaks, in the middle of the park.

With Dackers and Ralph as a superb options from set-pieces, we really need to consider putting our best set piece taker (for me, that's Bridge) into the starting XI and taking them away from Mooney when possible.

They are miked up, they were stood in the tunnel just before the 2nd half testing them as they had problems in the 1st half.
Caved in to pressure.

The worst thing for me about that video is seeing the ref blow his whistle and then seeing the lino put his flag up. If it was offside why didn’t he flag at the time?! Oh and it also wasn’t offside. ****ing shambolic. Almost like they were scared of Wrexham’s money and how many followers Ryan Reynolds has on Twitter.

Didn't he go over to book one of the Wrexham players

I have asked the same! Ref gave the goal and it was only one player having a go at the lino!
Why the Ref came over to the lino (who couldn't keep up with the game) as much help as a chocolate teapoint ! who knows.

I haven’t posted for a while….don’t know why but after todays match….

Firstly what a great performance by Blues against a purportedly top side, who failed to impress me. Our work rate and defence were superb today and you can really see the work Maher and Co are doing on the training ground. The organisation and fitness and intensity is the best it has been in years. We are still lacking that killer instinct in front of goal, but clearly had enough today to win the match.

Now the officials. We have all seen that following our relegation to non league the standard of officiating is far worse then in the football league but todays performance was probably the worst I can recall for several years. For me it all started when he booked Mooney, a poor decision and you could see he was trying to exert some kind of misguided authority on the game. I don’t know the history of the guy, but has he officiated many games of 6,000 plus crowds?

He seemed to be reacting to the hostile atmosphere from early poor decision making, by making a point time and time again. The utter ridiculousness of making Colin retake the goal kick again and again because the ball was a cm over the line but then missing the most obvious pull back on Dackers and a certain yellow card that we were not even awarded a foul for, was some of the poorest decisions I have seen in recent years. Then to the goal, how can you award a goal and then disallow it only after the assistant has been surrounded by Wrexham players. You have booked Palmer and then the assistant has clearly told the Wrexham players in his opinion it wasn’t a goal. the communication back to Maher and Co via the 4th official is a handball and then the assistant referee puts his flag up. A complete ****ing joke. Why did he not put his flag up straight away!!

I know as a home fan it’s easy to think of bias and why do we not get the rub of the green but the officiating was awful. Surely someone must review their performance and strike them off from being allowed to referee another National League fixture this season?

Back to officiating Concord Rangers Under 12’s…..just such an inept performance…total embarrassment!
