Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-2 Cheltenham Town

Just a few emotional thoughts, maybe not logical but....

Sol got better out of the squad and had a plan and a plan B, sometimes.

This is very Bond esque in lack of spite and bite and guile and spirit.

MM stood on touchline looking on as Chris Powell did towards his end with no idea how and what we needed to do.

Bench is SO weak it wouldn't have been answer to any question.

Well, in fairness this is actually a very accurate post... couldn't agree more with your comments.

Our problems go way back beyond what we are seeing now - most of the players you single out either didn't play a couple of seasons ago or have now left. No player deserves to be singled out for the blame for our current mess. As a matter of interest when we were all at Roots Hall whereabouts do you sit and are you as vocal at matches as you are on here ?

don't tell him where you sit Steve, he's going to try and beat you up

We need several league 2 giants, we are playing teams who apart from actually playing as a team are head and shoulders taller than us, who are stronger on and off the ball.

Oxley - liability, where has the player of the season of a few years gone. Has all the attributes but massive lack in confidence

Back three- think they did ok under the circumstances

Ralph- technically a good player but not sure playing in a five works. At Crawley him and Clifford worked really well, don't know why Clifford isn't playing

Elvis- poor again, offered nothing going forward and out of position defensively, no conincedence that a lot of Cheltenham play cane down that side

Taylor- worst game so far, gave away a soft penalty, took a knock also, but didn't look himself

JD- not captain material, any passion he had he directed towards the ref rather than doing what a captain should and trying to help and motivate the team. Wont play Tuesday I assume

Goodship- tried hard but when he had the ball he either chose the wrong option or mostly didn't have an option

Acuaqh- for someone so big and solid he just doesn't use it. Needs to put himself about a bit and be more aggressive, also looks half a yard short of pace

Sterling- oh dear, a prem u23??? Really??? Offered nothing at all

Egbri- usual, gets the ball wide, has a man to beat but goes backwards, when he attacks the full back he has the pace and trickery to beat them so why not just do that

Nathaniel-George- don't remember him doing an awful lot but then came on when game was over really

Don't think Tuesday will be any better although Salford lost today with scholes in charge. If true and white, macca, Akinola are close to playing I would go with the following, not for Tuesday though, maybe next Saturday or following Tuesday

Oxley
JD White Dieng Clifford
NG Macca Taylor Ralph
Goodship Akinola

But that's a big IF fit. Assume once white is back Lennon will have his op so that's why I've left him out

i think our manager today made an absolute bollox of it ...

Molesley: "We didn’t execute the formation well enough today but it’s not about formation or tactics.."

Well - wtf does that mean ?

OK. Three hours have passed.......I don't think that things are as bad as some folk on here suggest. We performed badly today, the formation didn't work and Cheltenham were strong and experienced and had obviously had a severe boll*cking following their defeat by Grimsby.

Only last Saturday we outplayed Exeter and deserved to win. Egbri and Clifford should have started today. We do need a brick outhouse of a forward. BUT if we can recapture the Exeter performance then we will garner enough points to survive. We only need to finish 22nd.

So we need about 12 wins plus half a dozen draws from 40 games. Let's hope we can do it.

Yeah, doesn't sound so good when you put it like that! Who could we beat.....well, Exeter obviously, Oldham, Scunthorpe, Tranmere, Barrow, Mansfield.....then it gets a bit more challenging ....maybe Bolton? Orient? NOT Morecambe, obviously......

(and I've decided not to mention our friends in the North (of Essex))
