If you are referring to the general quality of the whole 'match day experience' I think few would argue that it has improved a great deal (apart with those with an axe to grind or too much free time to engage in idle speculation)

Undoubtedly. If only we could get Kidderminster-esque food on sale (oh, and stats in the programme ;) it really would be full marks all round

Ah well, here's a stat to cheer us all up.  Our average attendance so far this season:

5,143.

That's a massive jump on last season (4,535).  It's our highest average attendance since... 1996-97, when we averaged 5,267.

And that was in Division 1!

Indeed, in 1994-95, we only averaged 5,154... a paltry 9 more on an average gate in Div 1, than we're getting this season.

Bearing in mind that we were then playing teams with very large away contingents such as Middlesbrough, Wolves, Bolton, Sunderland, Derby, Charlton, West Brom and Pompey - whilst this season we're playing the likes of Macclesfield, Bury, Kidderminster, Cheltenham, Rochdale, Boston, Chester and Rushden.

That means we're probably pulling in (on average) 1,000 or so more home fans this season than in 1994-95... when we finished in mid-table in Div 1!

If that's not a stat to cheer us all up, then nothing is!

Matt
thats 608 up in an average attendance. with the average fan paying around say a tenner if you take in consideration of adult and concession prices. so 608*10 = 6080.00 * 23 home league games and thats a whopping 139,840.00 extra money through the turnstiles this season from last season, of which we can invest into signing players for cash or getting in quality free transfers that are fairly high earning players. this will strengthen our team or possibily pay back some debt. on an even more positive note if we keep performing well and mover up the league more our gate reciepts average will go up even higher.

+ the extra income from them when they buy BSE burgers, Programmes without stats, and replica shirts that aren't in stock.

It all adds up!!

Without doubt, the whole matchday experience is infinitely better than years gone by. Even the ticket office and admin staff are extremely good these days - always return my phone calls and emails promptly.

Cast your mind back to when the West Stand was still terracing (not that long ago) - open air toilets, no running water, no bar or half decent catering, dodging the rain leaking through the roof, having to jump over the wall in front of the stand to leave via the North bank, no PA etc etc. Those were the days!

Long gone are the days when I was too embarrassed to bring a non football/SUFC loving friend to Roots Hall. I'm now actually proud to take friends to RH and they actually enjoy the experience. A big well done to the club

God, things are boring when there's nothing to moan about.

. Why can't we be struggling against relegation?

We shouldnt fear any of these teams, i feel we have a squad that can deal with any of these teams. Yeah it will be hard but thats what promotions about, i think we should look forward to february as the month that the mighty shrimpers are taken as serious automatic promotion contenders
Indeed. If the team harbour any hope of promotion then they'll need to play up against these sides ... and beat them ...

I reckon quite a bit of the credit for this should go to the current management of the club on and off the pitch.
I'd say that most of the credit should go to them.  The debt issues aside, this club has not been better run than it is now since I started supporting in 1991, certainly.

Matt
Hmmmm.
Oooh! Hang on a minute everyone. I think we're all supposed to be biting on another juicy instalment of "Napster know something the rest of us don't and is damn sure that he's not going to tell us" b******s ...
