Steve Wright - Worst thing about BBC Radio?

That was Jimmy Savile's moniker for his mother.

On reflection and with the benefit of hindsight, maybe JS was the worst and most abominable 'thing' about BBC Radio.

Ha! I used to work with someone who knew him when he was the DJ at Leeds Mecca back in the early 60's (the first person to play a Beatles record there apparently).

anybody remember Laser, pirate station in the 1980s? I remember Charlie Wolf - "The C Wolf" an American (I think they all were) he always started off by saying "sod off my good friends". Don't think he knew what it meant but made me laugh.

Laser 558...used to plug me earphones in at bedtime and fall asleep to it

I miss Mark and Lard

Me too, they brightened up many a dark working afternoon back in the day.

This episode of their 'In Depth Reportage' segment is still one of the best things to happen on radio.

WARNING: Don't listen while eating or drinking

How bout the people who knew exactly what was going on but allowed it to happen. People in enough power to stop it within an hour......The quicker the TV license fee goes the better. I guess they know more and more people are not paying it anyway.

Certainly more and more people won't pay their license fee in future now they won't be criminalised for not doing so.

Ironically, the Beeb wanted to star a subscription servicesome 10 years ago now when Netflix was still sending out DVD's in the post, as Amazon still does now.
The (then) Tory led coalition government wouldn't let them though.Plus ça change, although the Beeb is now clearly under attack from the current government.
The idea that this will somehow improve the BBC's TV/radio service to the nation is,of course, just so much nonsense.

Mark Riley totally lost it half way through. Comedy gold

He doesn't ring a bell but I was more a Caroline fan anyway. Still listen to it now, especially when I'm working around Essex as it's a pretty good reception for AM. Going out to the Ross Revenge in May as well during broadcasting. Really looking forward to that.
I was a big pirate radio fan back in the day (1964 -1967) and a few years ago the Caroline ship was docked at the end of Southend pier So along with my work mates from Royal Mail we decided to go on it. What a fantastic time we had, especially going into the record library amazing there was literally 1000's of albums in this room, a record collector's paradise. There was no restrictions and we were free to go anywhere on the ship which was great and there was always someone on hand to answer any questions. Back in the day on a Sunday evening Caroline had a religious programme which I think lasted about an hour??, as we were walking around one of the crew said to me that this is the studio that the programme came from, I fell about laughing as the room was only about 4ft. square. I am sure you will love it, remember it like it was yesterday:-"This is Radio Caroline on 199 your all day music station. Halcyon Days for sure.

@davewebbsbrain Oh Lucky you was indeed another classic, with this being my all time favourite with Mr McScotty!

As you say I'm not sure how they actually got away most of the stuff they did considering it was a mid afternoon weekday show.

This one sailed particularly close to the wind from 'Lard's Classic Cuts'

Pulse 1 up here in Yorkshire is by far the worst radio station in the world. Fortunately, at work I am no longer close enough to hear the radio anymore. Pulse has a playlist of about 6 songs. I would be quite happy if I never heard the man going on about being taken to the church, the chap with something in his water, and Elle Kings crosses and naughts song ever again!
