In a world of my own.
A bloke I used to work with at LTSB head office has just quit his job as a broker in the city earning really good money to become a tree surgeon. Fair play to the bloke as he has taken a massive pay cut:fury: but has done it as he has always wanted to work with trees. :thump:

So I am strating up SZones very own Job club. So I want to know is.

*WHAT YOU DO NOW:
*PRO'S OF JOB
*CON'S OF JOB
*IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT I WOULD BE A .

I personally am a finance broker. Pro's are mad money if your good at what you do and no saturday work. Also my own boss so trips to Brum on a Tuesday night are no issue.

Cons are some late night work, endless boring social events and dealing with joe public.

If money was no object I would like to be a PE teacher. My mate does it and every day for him is so simple. Wears his SUFC tracksuit to school, plays sports all day and then gets home for 4.30pm.......Easy.

:flamer:

*Head of Content for Ladbrokes eGaming. Deciding what content goes on Ladbrokes.com - in 12 different languages

*Great to be involved in sports and betting all day every day. Some good blags - Glorious Goodwood, Wimbledon, World Darts Championship and Cheltenham Festival all in the last year. Working with people from loads of different countries

*Working roughly every other Saturday and occasional Bank Holidays. A bonus scheme based on things totally out of my control - i.e. results in sporting events.

*Dog handler for the RAF. As far as I can see you get your own alsatian and spend most of your time doing displays at county fairs as your clever dog jumps through hoops and stuff.

Good thread, DtS, like it!

WHAT YOU DO NOW: Accountant in a Financial Service Centre of a blue-chip Manufacturing company.

PRO'S OF JOB Not a lot, not even that nice a totty to eye up in the office, although at least here I can usualy get away with lurking on SZ most of the day!

CON'S OF JOB How long have you got? The fact that this job has caused me more emotional stress and even now caused a stress-related illness should tell you something. How I would love to be reunited with my Careers Advisor. Instead of reaching for my dreams he put the old carrot of £££s in my face. Shame he never explained to really earn the big bucks you need to do another at least 2 years of exams which I've neither got the time nor the inclination to do. I also cannot stand my current environment where if you leave before a certain time, despite the whole office being on flexi-time you are seen to be a corporate lightweight. No matter that I have to pick up my daughter from her Nursery school before 5pm 3 days a week!

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT I WOULD BE A Professional Skiver!!!
No seriously, anything would be better than my current predicament, even a Barista in Starbucks. In fact, I even seriously thought about applying to be a train driver. £30k p.a they were advertising that as, which is a damn site more than I am getting right now for 1000% less hassle I bet. I've also always fancied being a driving instructor although the Mrs claims that is because I'd like a steady stream of hot 17 y/o girls getting into my car! As mentioned earlier though, I always wish I had followed my dream and gone into the media, either as a journalist or TV/Radio Production. If I ever get a decent windfall I am going back to uni, bring it on!

What I do now: Electrical Engineer on the West Coast Main Line dealing with HV (25KV) and below.

Pro's: It's well paid, pretty easy and I can spend far too much time on Shrimperzone. I get to go and about and I'm not (always) trapped in an office. Work is 10mins from where I live and I finish about 3.30pm.

Cons: It's easy is a big con - dull and boring most of the time. Since we got swallowed by Network Rail the red tape to get anything done is unbelievable.

If money was no object: Writer or a owner of a little bistro in Tuscany where I could drink away the profits (COME ON THOSE 6 LUCKY NUMBERS!)....however reading Johnny's post I think I'd give all that up to be an aid worker as well, helping the street kids in India.

*Something incredibly boring for the Government

*Flexitime, a strong union

*Tedious work, low pay, appalling staff morale, office closures, impending redundancies, no attractive women under 35, no opportunities for creativity, inept management, no promotion prospects, devoid of humour or joy, no bonuses, dealing with c***y 'Big 4' accountants, knowing you're on the payroll of New Labour.

*(For Uxbridge_Shrimper) Online Content manager for Poker at Ladbrokes eGaming. Working all day with poker, writing, t'net and Leilani. What more could I want?
*(For everyone else) Aid worker out in Kenya. Do not under any circumstances allow me to explain why. Especially as any photos might upset TMTLW.

Mate of mine is a train driver. Two quotes you hear most from him when asked about it are:

"Money for old rope"
"Best decision I ever made"

He still has quite a few ****py shifts, but that will change over the years as he moves up the rosters.

Job - General Manager of a shipping/freight forwarding company, with 10 offices in the UK.

Pros - Plenty of overseas travel, if you like that sort of thing. Get invited to lots of sports & social things (off to the Emirates for the champs league match v PVC). Good company to work for, with supoortive board.

Cons - Long hours, dealing with China & Korea at 6am, and waiting for the Yanks to wake up at the end of the day. Not the most well paid industry. Sometimes rubbish office politics.

Ambition - To be a sports journalist, and travelling the world gratis, and attending all the top events.

Maintenance~ Electrician
Pi$$ easy job.
Spend half the day walking around with a skredwriver doing bugger all,
the rest of the time showing contractors around who haven't got a clue,
and the rest of the time having tea.

the only downside is when something goes wrong... you have to know how to fix things. In an investment banking enviroment that means, quickly and without bull$hitting. So I'm paid for what i know rather than what I do I suppose.

Good pay. c.30k on the cards with 25 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays and 6 weeks paid sick if required plus a bonus. Good overtime of which there is heaps of "job on knock" all at time and a half or double time. (I never do it I prefer my days off)

We can't fill the spaces availible but you need C&G and a few other bits of paper.... so no chancers.

If money was no object i'd be in a creative enviroment, but then I probably wouldn't enjoy all the things I do as a hobby anymore.

*Now: Lawyer for a large city firm, specialising in Construction & Engineering.

*Pros: Lots. I shouldn't grumble (but I do!) - good pay, sometimes interesting work, hours not too suicidal.

*Cons: Work sometimes v. dull, hours sometimes v. demanding, and deep down, I know that if I want to progress in my current job, I'll have to work twice as hard as I do at the moment. That bit doesn't really appeal.

*Dream job: Cricket Commentator. You live in permanent summer, travelling to idyllic places (see pic below), you get to burble along with your mates to one of God's greatest sports, your fans send you chocolate cakes... and they pay you! Awesome!! I am at least doing some volunteer cricket commentary, which is a very close second best!

:D

Here's the pics - this is where England warmed up yesterday. What's not to like?!

*WHAT YOU DO NOW: Buy and sell Property of my own
*PRO'S OF JOB Easy rearly if you buy off plan.. Great life work from home.pic and choose hours

*IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT I WOULD BE A .I would Work in Kenya with Animals .HONEST....Far from this maddening crowd.

Job- I.T. Tech support for Finance management company.

Pro's- Women everywhere, long term job prospects good, half decent salary.

Con's- Not too many to be fair.

Ambition- A Vet if the money was there, or a sports journo really appeals.

Job - Conference Director
Pros - good relaxed culture, good pay, potential good bonuses, own boss, lots of travel
Cons - events have to make profit, sometimes a lot of hard work, on the phone a lot, have to deal with customers, changes to programme, speaker drop-outs, etc
Ambition - column in a daily paper. actually, I've already done that, but would like something more than the Evening Echo. Radio work appeals as well, done that before and loved it, hopefully starting work at hospital radio soon.

hopefully starting work at hospital radio soon.

Mention of hospital radio always makes me think of the League of Gentlemen sketch where the DJ plays "Bye Bye Baby" to a teenage girl who has just had an abortion  :D

Job- N/A, student scum

Pro's - sleep till midday quite often, student discounts, can get ****ed anytime, across the carpark from lecture hall etc etc

Con's - Being in debt, the occasional work i do can sometimes be hard

Ideal Job - PE Teacher/Football coach. Did some teaching a while back at the school my mum works at and it was really enjoyable. (and everyone called me Sir)

Alexis

Job - IT Manager for a mobile phone company

Pros - Free phone! 20 minute drive to and from work. Easy hours, and I have my team working so well that I can now take a nice two week holiday knowing that I will have no emergencies waiting for me when I get back.

Cons - I have my team working so well that I can now take a nice two week holiday knowing that I will have no emergencies waiting for me when I get back, and because of that I am usually totally bored! I guess I have created this situation though.

Ambition - To buy my own 6 seater aeroplane (Cessna 210 would do it) and set up an air taxi service taking people to and from sporting events in the UK and Europe.
