Ive heard from very reliable sources that a certain "unpopular" ex-chairman is considering making a formal approach to invest in Southend.
How would you guys feel bout Alan Sugar??

Happy to have him if he helps financially, but can't see why he'd want to put money into us

Hmmm... From a very sceptical point of view I think he has the money(and ego) to invest in a lot bigger club than us.

As brilliant as it would be I think there are a lot of clubs ahead of us in this division who would be worth investement ahead of us. I still wouldnt complain though.

And why not his company is or was local and his money is as good as anybody eles if it helps bring in players and help with the new ground . But I cant see uncle Ron likeing a big cash player .

Sorry this is a total ****take, no sain person would invest in a football club with heavy debt, a few years left on the stadium lease and no planning permission for a new stadium. Oh and no assets belong to the club. So you don't get that much for ur money.

If we move to FF then we can start looking at takeovers ..

This is a load of b******s and i will tell you why.

There was a two page spread in the Times last week on Alan Sugar and one of his biggest regrets was getting into football which by his words is "full of crooks and cling ons".

Where did you get this info from?

Is this the bloke in the pram shop giving it the Barry McGuigan again??? When will he learn that being a source close to the club is not just about proximity to Roots Hall???

Is this the same Alan Sugar that turned Tottenham Hotspur from a club in dire financial straits to a financially succesful (relatively) plc whilst at the same time managing to redevelop the existing ground in the same place as no other ground option was available ?

No, a completely different Alan Sugar.

Five Live were on the case this morning and I've heard nothing back from them so assume this rumour is false unless Uncle comes back on and reveals his sources.

Well said ORM, I'd rather have a Sugar than a Risdale.
He's Essex based, a very shrewd businessman and he kept Spurs solvent whilst other Premiership clubs spent cash they didn't have.
I doubt there's any truth in the rumour but I wouldn't be averse to it happening. We do have a lot of potential, if Reading can be successful so close to the west of London we could do the same in the east.

Exactly what I was about to say. He's not interested in getting involved in football again, indeed he cites his time at Spurs as one of his few regrets in life.

I have no idea whether this is just rumour or wishful thinking, but it would not be so insane of Sugar. What heavy debt? Oh you mean those created accounts that keep us tied to the whims of our landlords and which can be dissolved as quickly as they were invented. Few years on the stadium lease? Not if he bought it lock, stock and Barrett. No assets? Well the stadium once he has bought it would be an asset. Our landlords can make a shed load developing FF and would undoubtedly have greater problems with Roots Hall. They may well get shot of it. Sugar or anyone else with the money may be shrewd enough to know that we are a sleeping giant (relatively). With the development between ourselves and London in the last three decades we have the potential and catchment to do extremely well and for a fraction of the cost Tottenham was.

Must admit we could attract somebody with a biot of vision. Wasn't David Sullivan looking for a "London" club.
With the Thames gateway ready to explode into a million homes and with the new casinos licensing laws...and with Southend behind an archetypal type of weekend retreat for the townies , it could be an attractive proposition.....

Also our nearest big rivals (West Ham (in terms of finance and catchment area of floating supporters)) has dimished fortunes. We've proved we can make it to a national final, we are the number 1 side in Essex ! And fiscaley we're even starting to make a profit ?

I suppose it could be either us or Brentwood Town fc
