The regions roughest pubs.

Back in the day Scott, The Spa was occupied by weirdo's, power drinkers and outright nutcases so you wouldn't venture in there unless you fancied a slow and painful death. I have no doubt that times have a changed. The Spa had a serious rep back in the early 80's.

Then I was born and it all turned into Malibu and Pineapple pub

When I was a youth, the old Leigh Elms was full of middle aged men who would get sloshed and have a tear up. The Woodcutters was similar, but not as bad. The White Horse Southchurch can be a bit naughty nowadays.

I once walked through a full riot outside Brocketts one night. That was a bit hairy.

Most pubs down the seafront were rough - Minerva, Forresters, Brocketts... The Ship was rough but then it was burned down and Callaghan took on the Woodgrange which was OK compared to some of the others.

The pub I saw my first fight though was the Dickens.

Oh and the Spread: some of the characters in there from days gone by: Geordie Chris, Paula who did karaoke, Brian the Irish nutter, the barman who dipped his hands in the till: it was like a soap opera at times.

The Bread and Cheese was alway a **** hole, I belie it has been done up since though!
Lol, yes, it was - Kev and his cronies were regulars there then! And it's a carvery restaurant now, although the front bar still has elements of being a "pub" still.

The Woodcutters isn't particularly pleasant now. A shame because there's a big lack of boozers in that area of town.

The Railway Pitsea.

Wipe your feet on the way out.

Why, cos they're wet from the carwash?! Not been a pub for years!

Walked past the Woodcutters last night on the way to the Pipasha, it was deserted - about 3 customers in there!

The Railway more or less fell down before it was shut down granted but not that many years ago it had the reputation to beat all. It was far and away the worst pub in south of essex. I personally got a smack in the mouth for using the toilet on a saturday afternoon while the market was in full swing. There are pubs in different parts of the country that I have walked into that I regreted seconds later, they have probably changed or been shut down by now but I would still be warey if I was to be standing outside them now. It was a different time then and different generations, I don't really miss it.

Anyone remember the programme "Toughest Pubs in Britain" on Sky1 or some channel like that about 5 or so years ago? The Railway in Pitsea definetely featured on that.

Don't know about Chinnerys but the Ivy House/Mr D's combo used to have its moments. Most memorable scrap was when the recently sacked bouncers turned up and gave the agency bouncers a good hiding.
