This has probably already been covered as it was on the echo website a few days back but I'm out of the country so let me off. Just been reading the article "Tilly still in hunt for a striker" and some names were mentioned as to who we've tried for. Jermaine Beckford from Leeds, obviously Roy O'Donovan, Fraizer Campbell from Man Utd and Ben Sahar from Chelski. I know we're all frustrated by the failure to replace Freddy but at least Tilly appears to be looking at the right calibre of player and his net has been spread further and wider than I expected considering his supposed lack of contacts. Jermaine Beckford did well for Scunny last season but with Leeds losing players over the summer he was always likely to get a look in this season. Roy O'Donovan chose the premiership substitutes bench ahead of us, not much Tilly could do abt that one. Its the last 2 that are most frustrating, the loans from Premiership sides. I'm sure Ben Sahar is an Israeli international? However i have to admit I know little abt the lad from Utd. Its disappointing that either side couldnt have helped us out on the wages side for these players as there's no chance of either player getting a look in in the Premiership this season.
It appears to me that Tilly drew up a list of strikers at the start of the summer as he always knew Freddy would be off at some point, and has been working his way down with no joy with any. With Foran and Paynter not given a run out this term, will Tilson gamble on a bottom of the list target or wait til January and give the current crop a chance?
History says the former, but has Tilly learnt from his mistakes?
