Breaking News We are the Consortium buying SUFC.

Come on now, I know we are excited but some of this talk is ridiculous. If Ron has taught us anything, it's nothing is over until it's over. This consortium have purchased nothing yet. DD hasn't been completed and they've signed nothing. Let's get that sorted in November above all else.

Furthermore, plenty of football league clubs have been languishing down in this league and even below, for many years. Chesterfield have spent handsomely in recent years and are still here. Nothing is a given. Then look at the huge clubs in league 1 and the infrastructure and backing they have. We are nowhere near those clubs in comparison. To think we can make it to the championship in 5 seasons is not realistic at all. Of course, have a dream but it's dreams such as these that many fans lamented Ron for having. Overspending and getting to the championship killed us long term. Let's not go down that road again.

I still think Championship is achieveable (in a sustainable fashion) and should be on the radar...within 5 years I would say , is not unreasonable 😉.....we have done it twice before after all .....not saying it is a failure if we don't make it and I get that we would have no more right to be there than any other club.

We nearly went bust both times. Didn't learn our lesson , had another attempt and upped the playing budget under PB, CP and Bond.....Thats why we are in the NL

We will of course have to push our budget to get back in the EFL but spending next next years season tickets in advance has to stop. Lets really have a cup run rather than budget for one and fail when it doesn't happen.

I like the fact there’s a consortium with a range of investors. Leave the day to day running of the club to the professionals (which every indication is they will) and make reasoned joint major decisions when needed.

The club might avoid being the egotistical plaything of one unhinged individual (again) as a result.

Plus if one of them falls on hard times or gets bored then a new investor can be found to replace them without the need for a major overhaul of the club and with continuity through the remaining investors.

Yeah, it needs to stop. The funding swing is £2m per season now when getting back into the EFL, so they may want to push it a little. Generally speaking though, you'd hope there will actually be some proper budgeting and fiscal management going on.

Of course though, matchday and sponsorship revenue should all see a boost. Plus, if we want to push for promotion without necessarily having one of the biggest wage bills, then we probably have the best personnel in the Football Dept. to achieve that.

Ok, maybe I am getting a bit carried away in the moment.... A solid division two or one team is probably more realistic.

I wonder if Oldham fans would see the irony in this. I think they had the record for most consecutive seasons (10+ years I believe) in the same league (league 1) and many of their fans commented how boring it was. They hardly ever challenged for promotion and weren't in relegation battles. The epitome of a mid-table team. I bet they look back in awe at those days now.

Yes . If there is one good thing to emerge in the last 4/5 seasons it is the players and management we have now. Whatever happens off field those boys are the best value £20 anyone could spend at football.

Had we been allowed to sign players then Jack Wood and Oli Coker may never if had there chance. The difference is those lads enjoy wearing and are proud of the shirt compared to journeyman so called professional we have had in recent times.

Having said that other mangers had trouble signing anyone other than the unwanted because of Ron no paying agents etc.

Graham Taylor said “There is no disgrace in Watford being a yo-yo club between the top two divisions, because sometimes they can be a yo, if you know what I mean.”

A stable League 1 club which goes up to the Championship and down, at least has a good time every other year or so.

As he also (didn't say) regarding the picture of Justin watching the game on Tuesday - "do I like that".

Did we really up the budget under Bond? How depressing.

Other than Milligan in a deal which needed the sweetener of the promise of a coaching job that summer had the feel of shopping in a charity shop. Ralph can’t have been on that much as he’s still with us in the Conference; there was Goodship from the depths of non-league; three times failed triallist Andre Blackman where Bond literally said he was cheap. All this whilst losing proper players in Ben Coker and Dru Yearwood.

But absolutely we need to live in budget. We need to prioritise cup runs and live within our means.

Yep, all the tools are there. And i totally agree we shouldnt play boom or bust anymore. But if we cant set our sights high and try to get back to the championship somehow, whats the point? May as well stay non league.

Hopefully we can start a whole new era of proper ownership and management, and be flagbearers of the maher model as opposed to the martin model.

Hear we go again running before they can walk .Baby steps get away from the relegation area first Then build from there .mid table this season will be fine .After all the crap the management and ayers have had to put up with. 10 point penalty So build from there first
While I can't disagree fully with this....a quick peek at the table shows we are a measly 9 points off the play offs....nine!
We have a decent team that can perform very well. Add 4 or 5 players to the squad and I have no issues with predicting a play off spot. I genuinely believe we can get in the top 7.

On the whole 'holding our own in the championship' unless there's a massive cash spunking down the line it ain't gonna happen. A sensibly run league 2/league 1 club with maybe an occasional flirting higher would be the sweet spot.
I remember 2006 when we collectively done a million on three players and Norwich bought earnshaw alone for 3.5 mill. So tough to compete in there.
Rotherham probably a good example of small club trying to play in that league, really tough.
