Why are we so bad?

well we are constantly told that immigrants take the jobs brits wont do alledgely, shame those in work cannot carry out their duties correctly.

Or to be more precise, shame the people running these places, are not employing someone to do the job.

Maybe they are though Steveo, but they're spending all their time filling in paperwork to do with Elf'n'Safety about wet floors and the use of aerosol sprays.

The trouble is that we have a population which includes some who are simply too lazy and ill mannered to be able to use facilities in a reasonable way and expect public conveniences to be cleared up after them. Is it really so difficult to make sure you pee IN the loo, don't block the sink up with loo roll or crack the mirror?!

The bliss of going into beautifully pristine public loos in lots of places in the States does put our country to shame, but the loos themselves need to be maintained to a better standard which might at least, make them look better. That's one of the biggest problem with public loos in this country, what people are working with are often so antiquated that they're not able to keep them looking good.

Why not franchise them like they do abroad. I have been in plenty that operate like this and have been spotlessly clean. Alright, you have to pay a Euro but for hygenic facilities I don't mind parting with a coin.

The streets of Dublin are very clean and tidy compared to over here, one thing that did annoy me over there was the lack of decent street signs we got lost a couple of times because of that!

That's another thing though isn't it? Lots of places you go to in Europe and the States will have had armies of street/beach/park cleaners up and out at the crack of dawn working on litter and such like. Unfortunately, over here, a) there are too many not prepared to do this kind of work and b) the councils won't pay out the wages for it. We see a street cleaning machine maybe once a month, and the mess that's left on rubbish day is unbelievable because people will insist on putting their stuff out the night before and all kinds of animals and birds raid the bags.

This country's obsession with every sodding bin being a terrorist threat isn't helping either. Bought some chips to eat on the way to the ground on Tuesday. Walked the entire length of Victoria Avenue, past the burger van next to The Spread, had a pint, walked around to the ground past the garage and then went into the ground.

Not one bin in any of those places...

Ended up sticking the rubbish in a bin down Hamlet Court Road on the way to the train.

People just don't drop litter on the floor, there are bins everywhere sometimes you can walk for ages without seeing a single bin over here!

The thing with litter is that people deliberately drop it and have no shame in doing so, regardless of what it is. Unwrap a chewing gum or finish a chocolate bar, drop the wrapper - why??? Is it really so inconvenient to screw it up and put it in a pocket or bag until you get home/work or wherever and can put it in a bin? Same with the fast food stuff, I sympathise with people walking who can find nowhere to put this sort of rubbish - as Seany says, the obsession about bins is seriously out of control - but if you're in a car, why can't you take it with you, why the need to chuck it out of the window? People just don't seem to have any pride in their surroundings and I think that's really quite a sad indictment of the way people live in this country these days.

Agree with that in particular about tucking a wrapper in a pocket or bag, it isn't hard to do. I wonder if people throw things on the floor of their homes. Another thing that gets me is dog sh*t there are many responsible dog owners who use pooper scoopers and deposit it in the bin provided, but there are more who let the bloody thing crap where it likes and make no attempt to clean after it.

That isn't entirely true about train lines particularly in this area as Southend and surrounding districts have c2c and National Express or whatever they are calling themselves this week.

I live nearer to Rochford im not going to commute to Southend Central just to get the train to London , so we are bound to our local one. Privatisation was not the answer , a service as this should not be run soley as a money making venture

Nail. Hit. On. Head.

Why does everything have to make a profit for shareholders? Why can't we have services that are there to assist, such as local Post Offices, bus services.

Exactly right - services should be just that and not a money making exercise.

Plus this isnt some mad socialist dream or rant , it just makes sense ! Firms still make money but one areas that are not directly related to essential services and commodieties which should be basic rights for anyone in the society . We all want to make our cash , but a balance has got to be maintained (well and created firstly)

Why is this Country so bad and how can we fix it?

Having just returned from holiday, once again, I find it exasperating that we are rubbish at so much stuff.

We used 5 airports, Heathrow terminal 5 was ok, JFK, La Guardia and Tampa were all excellent. Arrived back at Gatwick. Plane stops, sit on the plane for 15 minutes while they get a walkway thing. Finally get off and have a 20 minute walk to get to immigration. 20 desks, only 12 open. 25 minutes to get through. Get to baggage reclaim, no bags yet. pop in the loo. Paper all over the floor, water on the floor and all round the basins, some toilets blocked. Disgusting mess.

Yellow shirted "Gatwick Porters" offering to take peoples cases from the carousel to outside for £7.00. All non poor English speaking asians.

Nowhere outside the airport for the minivan bloke to park without infringing traffic regulations and having to argue with a parking attendant bloke. Why not? People need to be collected.

Temporary lights still at Hambro hill due to roadworks over running by two weeks. Same old rubbish.

Will it ever change?

It will change when people stop whinging and start doing stuff. Write to your MP or in the case of hambro hill finish the roadworks off yourself.

:D Can you stand for Parliament Colonel?

This whole thing about the BNP is so silly. They're absolutely mental and there's not one of their policies that would work out in a modern Britain. In a globalised world the idea that 'it's all the fault of the foreigners' is like thinking that thunderstorms are caused by God moving his furniture.

I'm getting really close to the stage where I actually want the BNP to win the election just so we can see how useless they are, but I've got a funny feeling that Germany tried a similar ploy in the 1930s and it didn't work out so well....

Don't be silly , its Thor and his Hammer ;).

I know its just maddeness people are so so lazy , they will not read or find out for themseleves what it is that would make their lives better , their spoon fed utter rubbish , "picked" celebrities fill the vulgar media to make us want to be them and aspire to a vacious life .
The BNP are children who got scared and were not brave enought to find out what it was their were scared of.
