Why are we so bad?

Lol ta well they should keep up ya know i did ;)

You are assuming I am part of the proletariat as defined:

Britannica Concise Encyclopedia: proletariat

The lowest, or one among the lowest, economic and social classes in a society.

Thanks for the assumption which is probably made because you think i am some sort of thick bloke, whereas I suppose you consider yourself of a higher intelligence and run your own business, make plenty of money and have a steady and stable family lifestyle.

Interesting comment about Scargill and the Unions.
I have heard the passing of the Unions being trumpeted as a great thing on many occasion, often by those who then complain about the standards of cheap foreign labour and how they are doing the British out of a job.

If the Unions had not been widely decimated perhaps a decent working wage may well be available for all instead of those desperate souls who would take any work they possibly can , being exploited with absurdly low pay.
Also, do you thing that a strong Union would have allowed these "cash in hand" "under the radar" workers to work alongside them ? That would also close another loophole exploited by the unscrupulous bosses which often gets raised by certian faction in this country when commenting on various issues....

Now I am not saying the Unions were the answer and they were too strong and bolshey for their own good at times, but there are upsides and downsides of every action.

Getting back to the original question , I don't think we are that bad. We may not be world leaders in a lot but I would hazard a guess we are in the top 10 , maybe top half dozen in most things (OK Sport excepted :) ).

Our health Service, despite being slated over hear is the envy of the world,
Our Welfare state , Ditto
Our Airports were the subject of the question, well I don't fly a lot, but the I would anticpate that whilst ,say , Gatwick does not compare to KL individually the combination of all of our airports would be better than the combination of all malaysias.
Public transport, again probably not the best , but by far from the worst.

I would imagine that if you took 20 indicators such as those mentioned above and applied them to every country in the world we would be far from being Bad

the unions had too much power ,look at british leyland they had strikes just for the sake of striking, with unions the thing i could never understand was the fact that whilst workers were on strike suffering hardship the union leaders were all still nicely in clover.

Why are we so bad?

Three reasons:

1. Too many British people think the world owes them a living and they should be earning millions for doing very little. Nobody wants to take responsibility for their own life and too many want to be paid more than they deserve or given hand outs for nothing. Sadly I find myself working in an office environment for the first time in some years and I am astounded by the number of people earning £30k plus (yes, I know it's not a fortune but a lot of people don't earn anything like that much) who are genuinely stupid, and incapable of organising a sock drawer let alone manage part of a sophisticated business, and yet they still feel that they deserve more. Some people are born to be ditch diggers - deal with it.

2. Bleeding heart liberals who are very good at blaming the 'rich', the Tories, the Daily Mail, the BNP, not the ludicrous 'trendy' education that our children are receiving which is preparing them to be the sort of people I mention in point one. I am also revolted by the champagne socialists who claim to care about the 'masses' but have nothing but contempt for popular opinion and popular culture. Can they not see their hypocrisy?

3. Lastly, I blame the coloureds, the Catholics, the Jews and homosexuals.
