Why do many people believe that having a new ground ,will make us a better team. The rent will be out of our control, into the hands of the greedy property developers. The projections given by RM will not make too much difference.I only feel doom and gloom at this moment in time. Will someone please explain by having a new ground, but not owning it mind you, will improve our finances and our playing fortunes.
We also have one of the weakest boards that any company could wish for. They are lily livered who will not put up much of a fight against RM.In my opinion they should all resign forthwith. What do they contribute- very little, they are useless !!
I do not trust our current situation.Ok Sainsburys crave Roots Hall, and they may get it eventually, but so what.We do not need a 22,000 capacity stadium.Look at Darlington !!!
I am also disheartened that quite a few very long term season ticket holders are not going to renew.(The longest being a supporter for 62 years, another 45 years).RM and his shenanigans have put a number of supporters off,and i feel they will be lost ,probably forever. The constant BS from the quiffed one, has peed too many people off.
Why not build a smaller sainsburys at Roots on the car park and flats, with parking in a multi storey and enhance Roots Hall stand by stand .Crystal Palace did that.
Get rid of RM and his band of cronnies,he only ever wanted the ground and training ground, which he achieved. Bye Bye Ron and good riddance.

I couldn't agree more.

Ok, let me ask you this....

Would you just hand over a £6-7m pound property, just out of the goodness of your own heart?

But in reality what is a football stadium really worth ??? What can you do with except play football? It would be a very very expensive pub/resturant/conference centre. The real income surely is rent to us . Without a football club wouldn't it just be a white elephant?

And as has been said time and time again, if he doesn't care why not just build a COl U style stadium .

Anyway, even allowing for some bizarre change in events, you cannot build a bigger stadium on Roots Hall due to the fact it was reclaimed land from a rubbish tip (IIRC) - Jobson did look into rebuilding a bigger North Bank I believe but was told it's pretty much a non-starter (hence why the South was redeveloped in such a limited way).

Secondly, where is the revenue coming from? Legally, we're not entitled to any of the money from the retail/hotel/casino/other crap at FF. So again, it's all down to Rons discretion

Also, how can we be certain these other revenue streams will actually make a profit? There are already other shops/hotels/casinos in the town...

I couldn't agree more.

See now I just don't get this. You are an intelligent, cosmopolitan succesful bloke, and then you highlight a rant full of inaccuracies and statements that have been rationally discussed and dismissed by some of the most articulate and balanced posters on this board, and just sign up to it! I'm baffled!

:dizzy:

He may well do, as he has already said the stadium may cost £40 million to build but the true value will be much less than that, i think he said around 6 or 7 million.

where do you get 6-7 million there is no way you would get the stadium he is planning to build at FF for that price,i think you find he was talking about the cost of building materials like steel which has fallen in price which would make the stadium costs less that £40million

Re-read what i have written homer, the cost of the build WILL be £40million but the value of the stadium once it has been built is considerably less than that and i am pretty sure that Ron said its re-sale value would be around the £6/7 million mark.

I no this has been gone over more than once, but i would like to get an understanding of this. All legal fees, and any other paperwork needed for FF has been paid by Ron or borrowed by Ron, Southend as a football club have not paid for this. If the answer to this is yes, then i understand Southend having to pay Martin rent when we move into FF. If on the other hand Martin has taken any profit we might make on match days and poured that into FF, why are we paying rent for somthing we helped build. Sorry if this sounds a bit of a basic question.

Don't have the time to say why I agree with it or to argue the case in support. Thanks for the compliments BTW ACU  but I must say I find your relentless optimism in the present circumstances unfounded and unjustified to say the least. :)

I think you have just answered it. ;) Perhaps Ron will make so much money out of the development that a gift of that size will be just a drop in the ocean.

I highly doubt it.

Ron will make a bomb out of this development, and it's the subsequent rent (for the retail units) that will see him 'set for life'.

However, just to 'hand over' a property worth £Xm seems too far-fetched. If i was in his position, there's no way i'd even consider it, and i doubt anyone else would either.

I'd imagine the real income, is rent from the club, but, what you must remember, is that you would own a property worth £Xm. In X amount of years, we could go through the same thing, i.e. relocating OR even if we went bust, and the owner of the ground, can flog it off for X amount of profit.

Certainly there are no guarentee that the retail side would be a success, however just for the "new" factor i'm sure many people would visit it.

We've already got 2 Casino's in Southend, so the need for a third is............???

Answers on a postcard

We do have two casino's but we also have about 12 supermarkets, 35 pubs, 7000 restaurants, it just isn't going to stop with opening more and more stuff.

I presume what will happen is Business men groups who go for a day out and things, they will pop into the casino and have a luncheon a pims ect..

All the other shops will attract girlfriends (don't mean to sound sexist) but it is true!

People who live on this side of town, although not that far away from the town center, will venture over to the shops not only on match days. The potential is really huge!

If you re-read my post, i'm actually agreeing with you. I can see many people going there just for the "new" factor.

However

There is no guarentee it will succeed, (Which is what ARS was saying). This is a good, valid point. There is no guarentee at all.

TBH, the main bit i was questioning was the need for a 3rd Casino.

Yeah I new you where agreeing I was just using your post as part of mine to highlight the potential!

Let's hope it will succeed!

Stayingin League 1/2 led us to losing our ground to debts.

We are incapable of any sort of progression and I personally want something to play for.

Just to accept we will never be higher than League One isnt something I want to live with and I bet if thats what we did people would be complaining every single year we werent spending money or competing!

I think you will find it was Jobson that lead to us losing our ground. I am only quoting what Ron said in the Echo when saying that we could remain at Roots Hall if we were happy in League 1/2, I am sure Darlo would have loved that idea.

Well we have had progression this year and I can see it continuing next season.

Why? I am right more often then you - for example we didn't go into Adminstration, and we didn't get wound up - so I was considerably less stressesed and wound up than you were, which is good for my heart age. Eventually of course, you may be right in your dire predictions but in the meantime enjoy the present and what we have (and what we have enjoyed in the last 6 years).

Example: In our Championship season we lost (you may recall :'() to Colchester United 0-3 at home live on Sky. The negativity and pessimism on this board hit new hights. A lot of fans metaphorically threw in the towel, and announced that they weren't going to the next match which was away. My optimistic nature, combined with a distaste for the breast-beating taking place on the zone, led me to round up my son, his friend Michael and Lucky Derek and head for England. The result was that we saw one of the most memorable matches of that season - Preston 2 Southend 3 . I think that is one-nil to my optimism.

:)

Being right about one thing(so far)doesn't actually make you right more OFTEN than me on a regular basis about the present situation, taken as a whole.Even you admit the possibility that I might be right about administration sometime in the future. How about early next season, that woudn't do our prospects in League 2 much good ,would it?
We certainly haven't gone into administration yet, as you say, and although things certainly look a lot better with Sainsbury's on board it could still be a difficult summer, with no more gate money coming in after the Stockport game, and the inevitable decline in season ticket sales for next season. What if serious funds aren't made available for new signings and we continue with the loan policy of the last two seasons? A lot of players are likey to walk in the close season. How are we going to replace them? I'm much less sanguine about the present than you are I'm afraid.

I certainly do remember that Sky game against Colchester though I didn't get as lucky on the road as you were at Preston.I did see a few games in our Championship season however.
I remember those excellent early season performances at the Hall against Stoke and the great win against Sunderland with real affection and optimism for our Championship campaign. Although it was fun to go to quite a few Championship grounds(again) and see us play at Palace,QPR and Leeds it wasn't so great to see our team clearly outclassed away from home.By the time I saw us play at home against Leeds on Saint Patrick's day in a 1-1 draw it was pretty obvious we'd be going down after just one season.

1-1 for realism? :)

Sorry, been away so my post may look a little late but I do agree almost whole heartedly with these comments. I just can't see why we are so dedicated to the white elephant called a new stadium. No good will come of it. Decent team, same stadium and then see where we go from there. The words horse and cart come to mind.
