What he really said was, "I cry myself to sleep every night thinking about the state my beloved Southend United has got itself into. Every day I return from training, I can't wait to get home, within the privacy of my own four walls, so that I can put on my old Blues shirt again and think of past glories. I can't wait for the day when the Consortium will ride in to rescue us, reinstall Tilly as Manager, me as Captain and will get me out of this bankrupt s**t h**e in south-east London."
More seriously, I can't see anything too controversial in what he said. Will be interesting to see, as the season progresses, if he is confusing staleness with lack of pace, positioning and general footballing skills.

Quite. Ryan Giggs doesn't appear to have gone too stale after years and years at Man Utd. I seem to remmeber Tony Adams was ok at Arsenal too, although that spell inside provided an exciting little interlude.

Would green if I could!

Must pinch himself every morning that boy , how on earth he got a contract at a CCC is beyond me , very commited player and gave his all , but was a very average league one defender at best , good luck to him though for getting that contract .

Our defence looks so more solid WITHOUT Barrett and several others, well done Paul Sturrock

If it looks more stable because we have a full squad of defenders and a squad of our own players in front of them.

Barrett would have been good at this level with a decent partner, something he didnt have for the whole first half of last season.

those who see this as some sort of slagging off from AB should chill out, Ad loved playing for this club be in no doubt about that, I know this for a fact, he was very loyal to tilly (as were others) and of course he was on a good wage, especially with kids and the like to look after. He never gave less than 100% when wearing the blue shirt, he was offered a very good deal elsewhere but turned it down to stay at his home town club, behave you lot, thank you that is all

Chill i am not slagging Adam Barrett he was a decent player in his time last few seasons he has not performed well that is all, and yes i do admire the way Paul Sturrock has formed a team and attracted the players to the club, nothing wrong with that.
Incidentally tonight was the first time i have hear Southend supporters in voice for long periods of the match, if only it could be like that every week.

I thought he performed admirably in the circumstances last season, considering the number of defensive partners he had alongside him.

Well now we got players who want to be here, so lets get the attention on them! I couldn't imagine our team before summer beating Bristol City 3-2, i watched so many games last season and there wasn't no where near as much as effort as there was last night's win.
Francis saying he wants to play at a higher level fair enough I don't hate noone for leaving, but were through to the next round and Charlton are out conceeding 4. We are packed with confidence as every single player wants to be at Southend right now and it looks like they want to be there to which is not what i saw last season! SOUTHEND UNITED TILL I DIE.

Spot on! God I loved Barrett for everything but his football. He was a mediocre league one footballer at BEST, I dont think anyone would argue that. How he got a move to CCC is beyond me and they will no doubt find out the error of their ways by selling him in the near future.....

I possibly think having Dougie as an assistant manager at Palace, had something to do with it!

Thats quality.

What a legend Barrett is.

Nice to see he's still interested after everything thats gone on!!

You don't just stop being a supporter though do you and that's what he was first and foremost. He's already said he's going to go back to supporting when his playing days are over.

Adam Barrett could have the pleasure of playing with Edgar Davids at Palace. Don't know for how many games tho, and whether they will get into the first team. Davids is now 37 and is on a pay-as-you-play deal.
