Post-Match Thread and Ratings Blackpool FC 2 - 2 Southend United

Negative and disappointed are different things though.

Agreed but how hard is it to stay positive after a last minute disappointment! Might turn out that this point could be a massive saving grace for us - Positive!

One the other hand the two lost points could come back to bite us - negative.

Let’s be honest , after Barnsley if anyone had guaranteed Kiernan and Lennon would play 90 mins , Demitriou would be back , our performance would be better and we would get a point at a team pushing for the play offs - most of us would have accepted it.

I would’ve been much happier if we had held on for an extra 10 seconds!

" Also surely the league must do sommat about the pitch invasion before the final whistle blew?? "

Doubt it, they didn't do anything when Grimsby supporters surrounded the pitch that time. Will they let them off with the flares, also seen at Accrington in the week? Can understand the very high emotions but can't be one rule for one club and another for others (like when flares were set-off at RH). There's also the possible 12 points deduction Shaun Harvey continues to fudge.

I also do not believe the league will take action on the flares, pitch invasion; and they will maybe only deduct points for the insolvency if, at the end of the season, the points deduction does not affect play offs or relegation issues.
Football is, all said and done, a business and Blackpool being "back" is essentially a very good business result for the EFL and as with Coventry, the League will bend the rules to keep a bigger team going. If it was Accers or Newport they would have been left hung out, as in the past.

Driving south down the M11 yesterday afternoon, I was only able to get a decent signal at Jct 9 and catch the second half...... Got the impression from the commentary that the tide turned when Mantom was subbed and the formation changed ? Why couldn't he have stuck with his original set-up ? Can't he rely on player X to play in different position for 45 minutes ?

Such a shame, two points lost but at least one gained and did feel for Moore - rotten luck. Not conducive to safe driving though....

Good to hear of players returning - chins up and keep the faith :LoyalSupporter:

CP the best form of defending is to attack, very basic football tactic, not filling our goal area with players as yesterday sorry management error.

Who would you have brought on then?

What if they'd got us on the counter? Can't defend a draw then, could have lost it completely.

He did the right thing, we were done by a lucky bounce.

Bishop - 8 thought was very good and made that amazing save in the second half that looked like it was going into the top corner
bwomono - 6 had a quite game didn't see too much from him
Kiernan - 8 Got his goal after such a long time out with injury so that alone gave him a high score but also thought his overall game was solid and looked very good
Turner - 8 as his goal was well taken and won a lot of headers
Lennon - 8 thought he was also solid and wasn't afraid to slide in
Hart - 6 same as bwomono to be honest thought he ha a quite game
Mantom - 6 didn't seem to do much, however his corner for Kiernan's goal was very good
Dieng - 6 thought he had a similar game to mantom didn't see to much threat from him
Hyam - 7 thought he was our best midfielder and showed a lot of fight in the midfield was close to giving him an 8 but wasn't overall sure.
Kelman - 6 put himself about but that was about it, however only young so wasn't expecting to much
Cox - 6 work rate superb again but also thought he had a quiet game. Also had that chance to make it 3-1 and surely win the game.
Substitutes: Demetriou - standard 5, Bunn - 4 thought he came on and played quite negatively kept on humping the ball upfield when he got it when he had a lot of time to bring the ball forward and attack, Moore - 3 feel really harsh giving him this score but he did score the own goal to drop us 2 points but he's been 1 of our best players this season and feel awful for him.

Overall the defence for me was outstanding and we defended very well as a whole hard one to choose but think Kiernan got my MOTM

Powell didn’t get the tactics wrong yesterday though. He got them absolutely spot on.

Once again, its poor errors/mistakes from our own players, which has cost us.

Blaming Powell for it, is just blaming him for the sake of it.

Tell who in your mind made the mistake for the second goal? The mistake that Powell made was to have too many defensive players on the pitch. Their obvious position would be in or around the penalty area. Is it any surprise that the ball comes off of one of those players.

Powell had midfielders available in the squad. But he chose not to include them. To bring Mantom and Kelman off and change the formation when it was working was not the decision to make. Then to make Bunn the lone striker when he is not a striker to hold the ball up is again not what I wanted to see.

Additionally I don't understand your comment about the counter. We were more likely to do that as Cox nearly proved.

Ratings as I saw
Bishop 9. Near faultless, just nearly dropped the ball in our net 1st half.
Bwomono 6. Is improving but not in the game much.
Hart 9. Really improving well. Solid performance, would love him to stay.
Turner 9. His sort of game, aerial threat managed and scored a goal
Kiernan 8. Brilliant comeback, just needs match fitness.
Lennon 9. Just what we needed, strong tackling and didn't give an inch.
Hyam 9. Best game from him, solid and brutal. Up for the fight.
Mantom 6. Seems harsh and tried hard but needs to be released from the burden of captaincy.
Dieng 9. Worked tirelessly, seemed to have more fire.
Kelman 6. Looked like he wanted to be 2nd best to every chase. Maybe the occasion got to him.
Cox 9. Does everything you'd expect from a time served pro. Worth his weight in gold, and the Captaincy for heaven's sake.
Subs.
Bunn, clueless and slow.
Demetriou. Chased the ball around without actually getting it. One good through ball.
Moore. Give him a break, he's been brilliant. Tried to head it out for a corner and it didn't work. Really, really want him to stay.
Blackpool, chasing a play off got the luck whereas we are on the slide and aren't getting the luck. The teams that battle will survive and we certainly did that yesterday. IF we fight we WILL stay up. COYB.

Absolutely yes but having watched the game we should now be sitting 2 points higher. SCP's decision to make negative substitutions cost us. League 1 players are not good enough to defend an onslaught. Whatever happenened to "Attack is the best form of defence" or just plain and simple "Stick to the game plan." 4 points from the last 24 is unnacceptable. SCP knows that but Ron needs to be in his ear continuously from now on. Must get something at Scunny.:Scared:

Attack is the best form of defence is sort of a load of bollocks though isn’t it. Just a little soundbite you can throw out. Doesn’t even mean anything. If he brought on an extra striker at 2-1 you’d be saying the opposite.

No, what cost us was an unlucky own goal.

9 out of 10 times... You are joking! 5 out of 10 we will throw it away. Look at the stats for this season

I've looked up the stats and this was the first points we've dropped this season when we've led with less than half on hour left this season.

We've won 12 of 13 matches (92%).

An unlucky own goal?... Too many defenders in and around the penalty box. We should have had players on the pitch or be playing a formation who could cut off the supply.

You can manipulate the stats to suit... The point that I was making was the number of points that we have thrown away this season. No one mentioned ,leading with 30 minutes to go...

Make it leading with 20 minutes or 10 minutes left the results are still the same.

You were the one who said look at the stats. I did. The stats say you are wrong.
