Look at the season Mansfield Town have just had after losing in the playoff final & Lawrence packing his backs & heading up to Sunderland.  I DON'T want that to be us next year, say after we've endured yet another Millennium defeat & Freddy's gone & left us!
On the other hand look at Gillingham a few years back. They were in the play offs to go up to the Championship against Man City at Wembley. After 80 mins it was 0-0. By the 86th minute the Gills were 2-0 up.

Man City scored twice in injury time and then went through on penalties.

The following season Gillingham beat Wigan in the play off final.

Whatever happens we need to keep the nucleus together and strengthen the squad. Mansfield lost crucial players.

All our key players (Maher, Barrett, Prior, Eastwood etc) thankfully are under contract for next season. This was not the case with Mansfield, for example Lawrence left on a Bosman.

I am mightily relieved that Super Adam Barrett (as he henceforth shall be known as
tounge.gif
) is under contract for next season.

I can't help but think there maybe something in the rumours about him wanting to be captain & if the rumours about Maher's contract are true then that could really have proved to be a stumbling block in any renegotiation.

I personally would get him signed up for at least another bonus year as the club did with Gower last May!!! Sort it our RM, preferably after you've mauled the FA & FL for the shocking behaviour of Grimsby "fans" on Sat!!!

i would have taken 4th at the start of the year. and another ldv final. if im honest, i didn't think we would make play offs this year. i know losing out the way we did is hard but its far from over. however, i can only say this after clearing my head over the last few days. the journey home i was silent and ive been a p***k to everyone i know over the last couple of days but its time for me, and some other people, to realise that 18 months ago i was staring at the southend badge on my shirt, praying we didn't go down. now we are in the play offs. take us finishing higher than west ham and c********r in their leagues, add finishing higher than orient, throw in ldv final, and a player who a premier league team were suppose to be interested in, add the play offs and i'd say its one of the best seasons for years. lets get behind the lads and support them on their way to league 1

Southend was the better team out of the whole game. i thought Gray couldn't cope against that defender but Freddy Eastwood played really well i thought he put in all the effort into it. Grimsby had 1 chance and they score. The fans were rediculous i couldn't believe they invaded the pitch we should be awarded 3 points for that we were robbed.

The club's pre-season objective was to finish in the top half so they did it. Also, how can anyone say the players were'nt up for it, they have just had up to 3 weeks of their holidays cancelled!
