I think - may be wrong here so can happily stand corrected - that if WE have the option, then that is entirely down to us and the player/agent cannot say no.

Think you are correct... seem to remember reading that it was part of the deal when we gave Ranger the chance to rebuild his career here, that at the end of the short term deal, we could activate the clause so that he couldn't walk away and "shaft" us.

I don't think IMO that he would, he has stated that he owes PB and SUFC for taking the punt, and is grateful.

What I'm hoping this current run dispels is that's PB only signs rubbish. Look at the players currently turning it on , Ferdinand , Wordsworth, McLaughlin, Ranger and Thommo. Whilst also notable performances are always the way with Atko and also Coker. Yes he has signed some questionable players , name me any Southend manager ( actually any football manager ) that hasn't done the same. I also think that players like Timlin , Lenny and also Corr and Bentley developed under him as well.

We have so much to enjoy , especially when on twitter the other day , I saw pre season picture with players like Simon Coleman, Declan Perkins and David Whyte warming up ... my god , this squad is a million miles better than that and other teams and squads I've seen here and we aren't also in the lowest league ! Negativity breeds negativity, it's a poisonous & toxic mentality and it spreads , like wild fire, either from the terraces out or from the core of the team, I don't think the latter is correct, therefore it's our jobs to keep the backing ! Even if we suffer the odd step backwards, the current run proves that it's just a trend ....

For the year extension I believe you are right, I was thinking beyond that.

Ranger is kind of like buying a car that's been previously written off. You know you're getting a steal but people are put off by a somewhat chequered past and worry that something is going to manifest somewhere down the line.

By the time he fully proves the doubters wrong he'll be on the verge of hitting 30 and his value isn't going to be that high.

Back on topic. I think we'll end up exactly where we are now FWIW. We'll have another two month run where we pick up 4 points after looking like we may have a chance of a high finish.

Personally i think we have decent depth in the squad when all are fit, white, fortune ,innis ,wordsworth, maybe when the transfer window opens PB will go after another striker and centre back, you can also add in kypaniou ,as backup for coker, and im sure we have some younger players who if needed for subs can step up given the opportunity,Bedford sounds like a talent in the making,As for a top 6 position,i believe with the right signings in the january transfer window we could possibly finish higher. Not many clubs in this division have a pair of strikers as good as we have already, they just need to be free of injury ,and either im sure could team up with Fortune and SUFC wouldnt lose much in the way of potency.Ferdinand can teach and help improve both thompson and Innis and i forgot to mention Sokolik too .As for our midfield ,i believe we have a very strong midfield now that Timlin is also back fit,.

After a great win today, and a win that's put us in the cluster outside the play offs. Is it possible we can finish top 6.

There are a lot of factors. We need players fit and injury free and we definately need to have a good transfer window. There are probably 3 or 4 at least that need to be moved out with 2 or 3 of a higher quality coming the other way.

Finally looking at the fixtures we have quite a few very tough games coming up.

Bradford next Saturday is as hard as they come in this division. It will need a big game from our boys to get the 3 points.

What a topsy-turvy season.

i thought a few weeks ago we where in danger of relegation and everything was terrible? Now your talking about promotion

I was merely asking the question not suggesting that we will. And if we go on another run after Christmas till next august in relegation form then he will have to go. That run we were on would have got most managers the sack. We were dire and worse than that the attitude and body language from the players was awful.

We have been much better in the last few months and the players look like they are enjoying there football again.

I personally think that around 10th is where we will finish , but given the tripe on offer at the start of the season it could and should have been better.

I like the players brown is signing and the fact his gambling on a better quality of player with issues either on or off the field, and that its paying dividends.
