CARL PETTEFER

ffs, he played every match last season, in which we reached the LDVfinal and were promoted. i think that says it all

carl is quality, our style of play has changed from last season, its more gung-ho and exciting to watch but having carl in our squad is (and will definitely be towards the end of the season) crucial for our team at the moment

I don't think Leeds will get relegated though...

Disgrace, not a great fan of Petts but fully appreciate that he done a good steady job for us in league 2.

Surely this letter was a piece of sh*t stirring by the Echo?.

Probably didn't have their "in depth, at home" feature with Teddy Sheringham's cat ready for publication so filled the space with this letter.

Forget the Echo - it's the Royal Gazette for me everytime!

Jesus. I didn't agree with the letter but I hardly think you can blame the paper.

As the Manic Street Preachers would say, this is just the Course of Sensationalism. If they write a bunch of letters saying "We're the best" and "Everyone in the squad's brilliant" then the paper would become mundane. Even thought we are doing well, it's almost given as consensus that everything is going right on the pitch.

If they print a letter like that, they get interest on the paper here and responses in letters. Both of these build the paper's readership or at least brand recognition.

I'm with fbm. If they get a huge weight of letters arguing the other way and don't print them then they are surely taking a bias.

That said, I thought the letter was more along the lines that we are doing better without Petts in the team, an undisputable fact. Last season we reached top with him in but top of a division below. My major bone of contention is the way he worded it implying that Pettefer isn't good enough for the league which I think is contentious but plausible.

On the plus side, I thoguht the report by Chris Phillips was very good.

I love every member of our squad, they all bring something to it, Petts is a brilliant player, sometimes quiet in the game but will always give 100%.
I hope he stays with us, but while not getting a game he might want to go else where

Thats a case for all our superstars. How do you keep so many world-class players happy? Chelski almost have as much depth and quality as we have and even they struggle keeping them all happy! Eventually there may come a time during the season where a player may say that I ain't playing regulary enough and he wants to up sticks. Hopefully this will not affect team morale. But for now it seems evryone is happy with thei role and the competition for places is great for the team. Long may it continue.

WE LOOK BETTER WITHOUT PETTS

Surely it can't be a coincidence that since Petts has been out of the the side southend are a much more positive team.

I have said before that i think he's overrated and just runs around in a circle or backwards without contributing very much. We are now a very exciting side to watch and the future looks good.

I could not knock tilly as he is doing a great job but some of his substitutions have been a bit odd.
Against Tranmere two midfielders off andfour strikers on let tranmere begin to pile the pressure through the middle and it was only their very bad finishing that let us off the hook.

I thought someone should have come on to shore things up, but we got away with it!

Someone like Petts maybe?
Spot on! Thats the value of having Pettefer in our squad. 2-1 up with ten minutes to go, Cole and JCR have done the damage, Petts could replace one of them to give us a more solid midifeld.

Don't see whats wrong with having 4 strikers on the pitch when we are 2-1 up

Well i totally agree with that.

Am I the only one cynical enough to question the authenticity of a letter from a Mr B Ready?

Just tried BT.com to see if there was a record of him - no record of a B Ready in Rayleigh but that could be because

a) His number is with-held
b) Its an alias name
c) Thats not where he lives
d) The letter is a fake

Just thinking back, The Letter said that since Petts has been out the team we have started to win games.

This got me thinking...and i realised that since Petts was dropped the following is true..

I have not been attacked by a Lion
No Popes have passed away
Rebel activiity in Northern Nigeria has virtually stopped.
the Global markets have picked up.

I for one hope that Tilly has noticed this and continues to Keep him out !!!

No,

I spotted it as well so I checked the Echo and the letter was actually written by a Mr. C. Lyon.
