Champions League you're having a laugh ...ClubValue(£m)Debt(£m)Man United919551Real Madrid656177Arsenal 612263Liverpool 536348Bayern Munich468 0AC Milan 4070Barcelona40028Chelsea3900Juventus26013Schalke240115

The Premier League debt table Manchester United: £660m (At June 2006).
Liverpool: £350m (At January 2008).
Arsenal: £307m (At November 2007).
Fulham: £159m (At June 2006).
Newcastle: £110m ('Liabilities' at June 2007 – before Mike Ashley takeover).

The top table applies only to the champions league but the lower is showing the top 5 English clubs ranking by debt. Apart from Fulham it seems that champions league football success also attracts huge debts.

Obviously the plastics aren't in debt as such but The Guardian quote Chelsea owe it's creditors (The Russian) the small amount of £736m

So is the Champions League worth the sort of debt involved bearing in mind that the big 4 would have no option but to raise the debt if they were threatened or face the possibility of going out of business.

To be fair, Man United only amassed that amount of debt because of Glazer's insane takeover bid that saw him borrow that amount of money, and then place the loans in the name of the company... Man United continually make a profit in excess of £30m per year...
