Euro 2016

I find it laughable somewhat, that professional athletes can complain about being "a bit tired" after 90 minutes a week of football.

The issue is that it's at an end of a long and gruelling season. I'd imagine that psychologically and physiologically it's difficult to end a season, have a few weeks of light training, some low-tempo friendlies and moping around in hotels, and then jump into a match at high intensity.

Its a disgrace that those 3 teams defended like they did!!its not on
What will be our next excuse..the opposition attacked us too much?
We should have won that group comfortably....so im not sure if we can beat any team from group F

Well my tickets for next Monday in Nice just got a lot more interesting. Never seen England in a tournament before. I stand by what I said yesterday - we'll look better against better teams but if we need to press the issue and create chances I don't see where those chances will come from with this team right now. We've arguably got the best strikeforce in the tournament (honestly I don't think it's even close) and they just don't look like scoring because we can't create anything.

England traditionally play badly and win and then go out playing "well" .

I'm not convinced about our strikeforce options. Kane might be the best centre-forward in Europe but is clearly knackered. Sturridge and Vardy look to lack international class to me. They both had great chances (from Dier's and Henderson's balls over the top) and both finishes were poor. A top class finisher takes those chances and doesn't complain about lack of chances. I think Woy's main mistake last night was in going for Kane instead of Rashford who is fresher, in better form and better at gliding past someone.

I find it laughable somewhat that a desk jockey can't appreciate that players might not be at their peak after a long and gruelling season. Think how a marathon runner trains for a marathon. They don't run 50 half marathon races in the preceding 35 weeks on top of all their miles of training.

Maybe Rashford should be given a go from the start. Look what Owen did in 98 and Rooney in 04. Couldnt do any worse than those £30m-rated strikers from last night.

Maybe, but there's nothing wrong with using the bench. You only have to look at how many games have been decided late to see the importance of substitutes.

What England miss is David Beckham. His set piece delivery would turn the current squad into one of the favourites. The lack of a free-kick and corner specialist is what is more than anything holding this England team back.

We nick an early goal from a set piece we'll run out easily as winners in the second round, much like we did in the 2nd round in 2002 against Denmark.

Jesus. That result last night is looking worse and worse. We're three minutes away from being in the same half of the draw as Germany, Italy, France and Spain.

i think that's an excellent piece and i totally agree with all of it.
England weren't bad, we just missed some creative quality. i personally think we needed more width but essentially we were a long way from crap, and we are usually crap in tournaments. we usually stink the place out and we were actually good to watch last night

In Hodgson's defence, he said that in the immediate aftermath of yesterday's game when it looked like our half of the bracket would be quite a bit more balanced.

I'm quite magnaminous about the route to the final to be perfectly honest. There's a good chance we'll play Hungary now, with France waiting in the quarters if we win that. A victory there pits us against Germany in the semis. The winner of that semi-final looks like playing Croatia.

So, to win the tournament, we'd have to beat two of the top four nations who qualified. In what other competition would you not expect that to be the case?

I think it's absolutely daft that NI can lose 2 of the group games, and yet qualify for the last 16.
