Anyone eaten at the Blue Strawberry in Hatfield Peveral? I'm off there in a couple of weeks and wondered what it's like....

Oh, and The Bear in Stock is pretty good, had a great meal in there last Xmas Eve.

Of them, Nandos- but a good place for some Italian food is ASK, decent prices as well.

The one in York is amazing. When we played Leeds in the CCC away (miserable day) we stayed in York and went their.

Located in a lavish hall with huge roman-esque columns. Over a hundred tables. Plenty of staff and a buzzing atmosphere.

Anyone been to this ASK in York?

Would recommend it.

not been to the Ask in York, but Ask is usually very good wherever... the downside IMO is that the menu isn't quite as varied as Strada or Zizis.

Fellini's in York is excellent

My old man lives in Wetherby, So I'm up around York a few weeks of the year and can echo that Fellini's is great.

Best restaurant I've ever been to would either be Le Caprice or J. Sheekey's - the latter is a must-do for anyone who likes fish.

Since those are both wallet-busting, however, my favourite "regular" eatery is Muhib on Brick Lane, my favourite local (well, local to my office) cuzza.

Of the chains, Pizza Express, Leon and Canteen aren't too bad.

Matt

My low budget city picks:

Tai Won Mein - Greenwich.
Mirch Massala - Commercial Road.

Local reasonably priced favourites:

Irmas - Leigh.
Manolys - Leigh.
Anika - Canvey.

Recently tried Simply Seafood in Leigh and won't be returning. One of a number of local eateries who think they can charge top dollar just because the have a nice building in a nice location and not worry about food or service.

I've not been to the Blue Strawberry but several of my friends have and all think it's pretty good. Make sure you book as it's very popular.

Thanks Kay

Edit - I'd rep you if I could.....

Locally The Mews is my fave at mom.. Zuma was all its cracked up to be but full of tossers.. Gaucho on Canary Wharf does a great steak but currently in this weather outside at The Pont, (Tower Bridge) would be my choice

Took my Mum there for her birthday last year and although the food was good, the service was pretty poor. They also seem to try and cram in as many people as possible, making it rather cramped.

I'm a big fan of 'Roast' in Borough Market.

Chain-wise, those Gaucho places in London are good if you like steak and red wine. Which I do. In fact I'm very much of the view that steak and red wine is why we were put on this earth.

I think that's generally true, you wont be dazzled by something amazing, but at least it's fairly consistent and a safe bet if you're somewhere new.

I'm not sure if i agree with that tbh. I normally like both Frankie and Bennys and Harvester but, in Southend, both the Frankie and Bennys and the Shorehouse are pretty awful.

I think a lot of it is dependent on the franchisee.

:(

A shame. I had impeccable service and a decent table. The butler must have pulled a few favours with the maitre d'...

:)

Sat Bains - michelin star food and service at a fraction of London prices...

Dylan's in Cockfosters was good, but I think it's gone now.

Limonia in Hampstead is also very good.
