Sergio Leone's great Once Upon a Time in America.Remember seeing it for the first time when it came out in 1984 IIRC in Montpellier.

Because of the film's departures from the gospel narratives—and especially a brief scene wherein Jesus and Mary Magdalene consummate their marriage—several Christian groups organized vocal protests and boycotts of the film prior to and upon its release.

Can't say I liked the film much myself either..Much prefered Dennis Potter's TV film Son of Man. (incidentaaly I used to see DP with a few of his mates on the terraces at Craven Cottage. Also used to know his very attractive wife when I worked in Harrow in social work).

Saw Call Jane earlier in SC's cine de auteur season.Exceellent performance by Sigourney Weaver as a 1968 abortonist.Obvious propaganda for Roe v Wade in the US but still a decent enough film.

You're clearly talking about his auto accident in the mid -50'S when he couldn't move one side of his face -hence the Clash's The Right Profile".He made some great films.
 
Saw kenneth Branagh's A Haunting in Venice earlier an d foud it really enjoyable and and I'm far from being an AG fan .
