Alone in the 18 yard box, dejected with a painful expression on his face. He's missed the penalty, yet the Santiago Bernabeu is rocking.

Yes, Cristiano Ronaldo is back to his usual, petulant self and even the Madrid faithful are growing ever-so-slightly tired of it all. If ever a moment defined a man, this was it. With 60 minutes gone, Real Madrid found themselves 2-1 behind to Almeria and Ronaldo has been clipped in the box. Up steps the Portuguese winker, ridiculous run-up intact, and he produces a penalty that even Aruna Dindane would be ashamed of.

Luckily for him, Karim Benzema is on cue, pouncing on the free ball to slam home the equaliser. Benzema celebrates with the rest of the team, barring a single someone who's still sulking in the box. You see, in Cristiano Land, it's only a celebration if Cristiano's involved.

Minutes later, Gonzalo Higuain has sublimely taken it past a handful of defenders and crossed the ball directly into The Ego's flightpath with the precision of a Cesc Fabregas Pizza Launcher, ready for Ronaldo to tap it in. Again, it's only a celebration if Cristiano is involved and, instead of acknowledging the work of Higuain, Ronaldo is already bare chested in front of the Madrid masses making an absolute arse of himself.

More than anything in Spanish football, they care about the sanctity of the game. Teams like Barcelona and Espanyol take great pride in their Catalunya heritage, while the Majorca team consisted solely of their fellow islanders until only recently. When a screaming child of Ronaldo's stature arrives and demands to be the centre of attention ahead of the likes of Raul, it doesn't take long for them to castigate yourself. The same axe fell upon the previous Ronaldo, and the only possible reason they're giving Cristiano the time of day is because of the absolute desire for success that is currently plaguing Los Merengues.

This is exactly why people flock to see Lionel Messi ahead of him. The Argentine sensation plays with a smile on his face, toils for the cause and is gracious in success as well as defeat. He might not be 170-something votes ahead of Ronaldo in talent, but he sure is in class and sportsmanship.

If alienating his team mates and showing complete disregard for the teams cause wasn't enough, Ronaldo completed the rout with a petulant and pointless swipe at a defender who dared to clatter the showman when he took it into the corner and acted the clown. The incredulous look across his face when he received his second yellow was priceless and couldn't have befitted anyone more appropriately.

As talented as he is, Ronaldo will never receive the adulation he received at Old Trafford with performances like this. Even the United faith waivered towards the end of his career and you can see why... Having the talent is one thing, but it's something else to have the persona and, unfortunately for Cristiano Ronaldo, you need both to be considered a legend in this neck of the woods.

completely agree. One minute he is showing his skills that made him a icon at Old Trafford and then the next minute he is throwing his toys out of the pram. From someone who came from a poor background, he doesn't show his appreciation for the chance he was given at Sporting and Man United.

By looking at his attitude, you could never tell that he was in the same team as top professionals, such as Ryan Giggs, and because of his lack of sportsmanship and respect for other professionals and team-mates, I will always rank him lower than Messi.

Well written!

I think the word you were looking for with Ronaldo is SCUM! Just ask Sodje how he had his fingers broken in our win against the Manc Red Scum. That will sum up this Winker!
