Formula One 2022

Ferrari strategists played a blinder again, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, what on earth where they thinking.

Looks like Daniel Ricardo wasn't as good as he thought he was...
Hope he goes to Alpine.

I know he hasn't been as good as Norris consistently, but McLaren have been poor and strategies as woeful as Ferrari. Putting him on the hard tyres with cars on softs or mediums behind him was a terrible call.

Would like to see Norris at a better team, but not many openings and might have to wait for Perez to leave or Hamilton to retire.

good or bad Daniel Ricardo has done with McLaren what Norris who is favoured there hasnt and thats won a F1 race ,

Confirmed now Danny Ric is to leave McLaren at the end of the season.

I expect he’ll sign for Alpine and Piastri will sign for McLaren. Unless some crazy other things happen.

A weird qualifying session with 7 drivers have penalties going into it. Huge chance for Sainz and Perez to get a win, but I wouldn't be surprised if Verstappen got at least a podium as he looks insanely quick.

Hamilton sounded really disappointed at the gap between Max’s time and his. I thought they’d be quicker after the rule changes seemed to favour Mercedes.

Great race by Verstappen, would take a lot to take the Championship away from him.

Rule changes to remove the advantage red bull had from the 'illegal' floor seem to have increased the advantage!

I'm far from an F1 expert, but Spa does seem to suit Red Bull more than Ferrari or Mercedes as it is a track with high speed corners. Ferrari seems to be built more towards higher downforce, so wouldn't suit them.

Mercedes seemed to have good race pace, with Russell on course for a podium before going wide and essentially losing nearly a second to Sainz and a few laps of getting his tyres back. At one point Russell was lapping at a similar speed to Verstappen, but he was probably cruising out in front with a big lead. Would have been interesting to see where Hamilton would have finished if he didn't get too close to Alonso.

Ferrari's new strategy seems to be to ask Leclerc what he wants to do every couple of laps. Ferrari/Leclerc season was summed up on the last couple of laps when they pitted for softs to get fastest lap, lose P5 to Alonso at the pit exit, regain P5, don't get fastest lap, then get a time penalty for speeding in the pits and relegated to P6.

Zandvoort up next. Max's home race and a track that is shown to be a high speed track. Sounds like an easy win for Verstappen. Add in the narrowness making it difficult to overtake and this could be a bit boring.

Also Ocon and Gasly going slightly under the radar, with Ocon going from P16 to P7 and not far off his team-mate who started P3. Gasly had to start in the pit lane and finished P9.

Rumours going around they could be team-mates next year with Helmet Marko wanting to promote someone into the Alpha Tauri spot and not seeing Gasly as a long term Red Bull driver. Would be a bit odd if that is true as Gasly just signed a new contract recently.

They really are having an absolute mare this year! Mistake after mistake after mistake.

Well and truly messed that up Hamilton. Great for George Russell though.

Hamilton was on for a potential win before the first virtual safety car. It was all gearing up for Max to go on hard tyre (which Perez was showing quicker lap times than Hamilton) to set up a chase down for the final few laps. Then the virtual safety car happens and it swaps, with Max on the hard tyre and the Mercedes on the medium tyres to possibly chase down for the win. In the end the full safety car put an end to it as Max could stop for soft tyres.

Mercedes really had four options. Leave both out on used mediums, pit either Hamilton, Russell or both for softs and give up track position to a faster car. Either way, I don't think they and a chance for a win after the safety car.

Jenson Button said that they shouldn't have pitted Russell to give Hamilton a car between him and Max, but with the Mercedes car needing a few laps to bring their tyres back into their performance window and with how easily Max got past Hamilton at that start, then it could have been a 3rd & 4th place finish at best instead of 2nd & 4th.

7 races left with a 109 point lead. Max will have it won by Japan. Race for 2nd place is a lot more interesting. Leclerc and Perez on the same tally with Russell only 13 points behind. Sainz 26 points behind and showing some good speed. He just needs Ferrari to not screw him over.
