We are not unique.
Up and down the country, the majority of clubs have a message board like this one, populated by some who wish to have a reasoned sensible debate about football, some who are like manic depressives who believe their club is relagation bound when they lose and promotion bound when they win, some total optimists who think that everything is rosy and some total cynics who are never happy.
And then there are the to**ers who just post b******s.
Every club has them, they are not confined to the South East.
So where have they all come from then?
Well, I think they have always been around. In the past, they would use word of mouth and discuss the match with their mates in the pub, at the game, at work, on the bus, whatever. And if they were a cynic, optimist or to**er, their mates would know and not take any notice. And even if they did, the target audience was minimal.
But now, we have (almost) anonymous postings, where all the audience ever sees is a username and what can more often than not be absolute drivel. And that target audience is now potentially huge and also worldwide, because it is on THE INTERNET!
So no-one knows if the poster is a kid, a nerd, a to**er, a mental patient, a player or whoever. It is just a username.
And on this board we have the same arguments that come up time and time again, done to death and all used up.
So, it's all the internets fault, that comments that used to be reserved for private conversation or at least for just a few pairs of ears, are now broadcast on boards like this for all to see.
Then we respond. And the vitriol begins.
It will never cease. However, if anyone with any sense makes a point of NOT responding to the drivel, and maybe if another forum was set up for frequently discussed topics and pointless abuse, then at least THIS one could be kept for those who actually want to discuss sensibly without making death threats against the players. Even if meant jokingly, that nonsense from tillysblueandwhitearmy ranks alongside some of the most ridiculous posts ever on here.
And that takes some doing with some of the people on here, let me tell you...
