Kudos to you for having the guts to admit it, but is anyone else getting a very weird mental image of some poor bloke standing up in the middle of a meeting and saying something like "Mr Martin, i apologise on the bloke from the cafe at the weekend's behalf for any offence he caused"?

It seems like some have missed the point of Shrimper_Wez's tale. He didn't vent at Ron, but about him within earshot of the man's wife, who is an innocent in the whole Southend-Ron saga, and consquently feels bad about that.

Shrimper_Wez, clearly accidental on your behalf so you shouldn't feel too bad, nice to see you've got some empathy for her. Getting someone to stand up at the AGM seems a bit wierd, if you feel that bad about the whole thing you could always send her a card to say sorry - I believe a number of SZers know the Martins address...

Negotiated his new position whilst the previous incumbent was still there and very much preparing to carry on "as usual" for one. Lack of professional respect etc

Ah, Attack of the Clones...

That happens all the time, why on earth is that something Sturrock should be criticised for ?

He was approached about a job that was available and Tilson was on his way out, thats all that matters.

As I said at the time, the way RM went about Tilson's dismissal was all wrong.
If he knew he wanted him out then why not do it on say May 10th & then get PS in on the day he did?
An utterly disgusting way to treat a club legend and another reason why RM should not regain trust as quickly as he appears to have done.

Tilson after so many years of service was dumped..His life as a manager was made impossible last season and he became a scapegoat.....I am not saying he should not have been replaced...but the way it was handled by RM was disgusting.

Its may anger people but what was the alternative? Sack Tilly with no replacement ready and then hope someone wanted the job?

Sack him by all means, but do not put him on gardening leave because you cannot afford to pay his contract up ...and even worse then do not pay him at all, but send it to the solicitors so sort out..that could take years.

RM has no defence I am afraid for the way he has treated Tilly...end of!

Putting staff out on gardening leave whilst compo and confidentially agreements are sorted out is very common in business, it happened to me with an ex employer, but yes, it does take a while to sort out

Maybe, but we all know it was an excuse to save paying him what he was owed contract wise....for sure things take time but in the meantime pay the guy's monthly wages...not let them stack up until either party has no choice but to take it legal.Tilly is not RM with Sainsbury's bailing him out at every corner..He is a normal man with bills and a family.

The last I heard he has had no money at all...and was owed over 50k...I can always check with his sister if that would help lighten your conscience.

I was going to post this on the tread about the AGM, asking if anyone going along wanted to say a quick sorry to RM from me. Instead I have just decided to mentioned a slightly embarrasing encounter I had with Mr (and I think Mrs) Martin at the weekend.

I was having breakfast in a cafe in Leigh at the weekend ('Stop The World' I think it was called). Anyways... After a fantastic poached egg on toast I walked up to queue at the counter to pay and noticed RM sitting on the chair in the corner of the room on his own. I lowered the volume of my voice and leaned towards my girlfiend and started reeling off all of the reasons that I hate the bloke, and may have mentioned a recent sexual assault accusation.

Having vented a few years of RM hate in her direction I was then confronted with an angry looking Mrs Martin (I can only assume they are married). She had been standing in front of me in the queue listening to every word. She didn't say anything, but if looks could kill I'd be splattered all over the wall of that cafe.

They left in a bit of a huff, leaving me with a very red face :embarrassed: wanting the ground to swallow me up! Unfortunately it didn't, and because they walked incredibly slowly along Leigh Broadway I was left with the awkward task of having to walk past them both as if nothing had happened.

So yeah... if anybody wants to give an apology on behalf of 'that bloke in the cafe at the weekend' then it'd be much appreciated ;)
Hmmm , letting his old dear be at the brunt of it again. You've got nothing to apologise for.

What has it got to do with my conscience? I very much agree that he should still be receiving his monthly salary

With the way you spoke to Kent Shrimper I'm not surprised you got sacked.
