It's Just like watching Southend...

Im sorry to say but i feel Tilly is coming to the end of his time here, he would be better to resign then have the crowd turn on him, which i feel wont be to long now. he has been good for the club over the years but i dont think he has any more ideas, and im sure Brush doesnt help. He couldnt stop Orient going down and i dont think he will give any new ideas to Tilly, may be get Ricky Duncan to take controll he seem to have more of an idea.

If it was a runaway train then surely that proves my point, an average team with a goal scorer in form. I seem to remember people being very realistic about our chances in the CCC with that team, expectations were not high and rightly so.

I am not claiming that Tilly is the best manager in Lge 1 but overall he has done a decent job and it is clear that the money is not there for decent signings.

I would perhaps say it shows the opposite, that the players were good enough to not need much in the way of guidance? Never underestimate confidence and form.

We could argue all day anyway, I just think if we had Gower, JCR, Maher, Eastwood and Flavs in the side today, we'd be top 6, rather than looking over our shoulders.

If that is 'average' then I'd take it.

More of a debate than argument I hope

I'd agree that would be a better team and we would maybe make the play off final but would come straight back down again if we went up.

Were the chips not down when he took over then ? we were heading straight out of the league.......what a short memory some people have.

The chips were also down when he managed to keep things together and push on with a very average team that got promoted to the CCC

That's not the point. That was then, this is now and now is not good enough. It may be an unpoplar opinion but I think Tilly's on borrowed time and it shows.

Team performances like last night will continue to get my very vocal objections whether people around me like it or not. I had to drag myself away from playing games on my phone to force myself into watching the second half. The display and tactical ineptness was embarrassing and like it or not in football the buck stops at the manager.

Tilly is a playing and managing legend. I'd actually prefer him to walk while he still has his reputation intact. A fresh challenge for him might do us all the world of good because I defy anyone (including Dick Bate) to be responsible for managing a display like that with the tools he had at his disposal.

In no way was Tuesday good enough. No one is arguing that it was - including the manager. But I don't see how, depressing as it has been, the season as a whole isn't good enough. Again, we're a mid-table League One Club and we're in mid-table in League One. Obviously we should be wanting more and we've all enjoyed the highs we've had in recent years but if you look at this squad can you say that they are underachieving? I don't think they are as they just aren't 'top ten' players.

We're Southend United. History tells us that we lose more matches than we win.

Wish we had some of those 'average' players now... Gower, Maher, Flavs, Eastwood... so, so average...

Yes, of course the chips were down when he took over, but if you bothered to read the rest of my posts, rather than quoting the bit that suited you, you will have read that I said it was the 'new manager syndrome' - new ideas, a fresh voice etc etc.

Something we need again now...

New manager syndrome that lasted 2 and a half seasons! What about last season then, we were pretty mediocre but then he made 3 or 4 signings in January and we got into the play-offs!?

Some wise words from a seasoned manager who seems to know what he's doing these days:

Their haste is a reflection of the sad way the game is going, with everyone from owners, the board members, the supporters and the media demanding instant success and showing no patience in the pursuit of their ambition.

“I’d have thought it self-evident that winning prizes comes with stability and long-term planning.

“Yet so often, when a club is faced with a few problems, wisdom flies out of the window in the hope that a new man can bring about a quick fix.”

I don't see what changing manager would achieve anyway. We'll never get a manager with a better record than the one we've got. We'll never get a manager who cares about the Club as much as the one that we've got. And best case that we bring in someone who isn't an Alvin Martin, Dick Bate or Steve Wignall then they jump ship the second they get a better offer, in the way that the likes of Martin Allen, Paul Ince and our very own Barry Fry have done.

The revolving door on the Manager's office in the 90s did nothing but send us into a downwards spiral that we almost never recovered from. It almost seems to me that people want to punish Tilson for not winning every match.

If Tilson goes for being mid-table then i'll not renew my season card.

I'll just go now and then, maybe the bigger games.

I'll say hey, it's been fun while Steve was here but i cannot put up with these fans any longer, these footballing analysts who pretend to know plenty about the game.
It's not good for me listening to people, like tonight, gobbing off like they know better to the best manager this club has seen.

You may disagree and feel entitled to do so, that's your choice, but this is how i feel about some of our supporters.

I think it's a bit repressive to tell people not to express an opinion or to insist that they are endlessly positive, only blaming the officials for problems, on a DISCUSSION thread. Dare I say it....Don't take it all so seriously!

I do agree with the posters who say that we shouldn't be harrassing players during the game because that achieves the opposite of what we all want.

Surely one of the reasons why this site is so good is that it gives us a chance to express ourselves after the game. It's not surprising that so many of us were upset after the Crewe game. We had done so well in the previous two games by playing positive intelligent football but didn't seem to use our heads against Crewe, or react to what was in front of us.

Yep thats how I feel. I could put up with the dire football but the expectations that people have and the anger at being mid table for the first time in 5 years is ridiculous.

Stopped posting on here because of it and will no doubt do so soon.

We arent a huge club, despite the shouts for "wheres the money gone" we dont have millions stashed away. We are a medium sized club in this division and whilst we should be pushing for promotion every year to not achieve a challenge for one year is not worthy of the amount of whining our "supporters" do.

Yes this seasons been poor and mistakes have been made. Our squad is inadequate and lacks any sort of creativity and more seriously it lacks players in certain positions. However let Tilson sort it out, don't call for his head because we are mid table...

I agree 100% with every point you have made.
I made the same point, though in a far less eloquent fashion, a couple of weeks back about how people are so angry about us being a mid-table 3rd tier team and the amount of whining they do about it.
I've deliberately given the zone a wide berth for 48 hours since the Crewe result as the post-match knee-jerk hysteria on here was all too predictable.
Up here in the north-east where I live the mere idea of someone supporting Southend provokes daily ridicule and I find myself having to stand up for Southend (and Essex in general) day-in day-out making sure people know I'm proud of where I'm from.
Yet when I come on here to see what my fellow Southend supporters are saying and get hit by the wall of negativity and whinging, it's like having the rug pulled out from under your feet.
