Tilson's problem was never identifying forwards who could score goals, though. Almost all of the strikers we signed went on to score goals elsewhere and have tended to play the majority of their football in a league above the one we found ourselves in. Tilson's problem was getting them firing once they had been signed and tinkering with the midfield to provide the best service to them.

Got to ship some out, surely. This squad is way too large. I'd start with sending JBW back and losing 2 midfielders.

We have 22 players who are in the first team and likely to get games, with 3 of them being goalkeepers and 3 are on loan. Ship out 3 and we will have only 1 in reserve who would be a goalkeeper.

Get Chelsea youngster Izzy Brown in!

Pointless. We sign guys from non league, do nothing with them for 2 months and loan them back to the same level. Isaac Layne says Hi!

Did you expect him to make the jump from 3 divisions down and play games? Also, he was loaned out to Conference South level, 1 above Billericay.

He is 19 (?), so he has plenty of time to progress.

There are a few teams like Rotherham,Crawley and Fleetwood who threw money around that would disagree with that.

Nothing wrong with spending money if you get the right players.

Again, wasn't you complaining we didn't offer Holman a non league player a big enough deal?

Tilsons most successful period was prior to having money to spend.

However he also spent fairly big on Bailey which formed our best central midfield of his tenure so spending big can work.

We also splashed out on decent wages and/or transfer fees for the likes of Luke Guttridge, JCR, Shaun Goater, Efe Sodje, etc. That team wasn't put together for peanuts.

Yet we have had the likes of Worrall/Sokolik/Egan/Coker/White so he has signed some decent players.

This is my guess:

Adam Barrett - going to Wimbledon as we couldn't guarantee him game time

Conor Clifford - Brown insists he is still in his plans .... 2 weeks later he is out on loan/transferred

Kevan Hurst - Out for another 2-3 weeks with hamstring

Barry Corr - Will be available for game at the weekend

New signings - probably a CB no-one has heard of on loan and failing to get the striker we "put a package together for"

Richie Foran, Peter Clarke, Billy Paynter and Matt Harrold weren't cheap :'(

They were in comparison to the majority of Championship teams we were competing against.

Not arguing that most of them were bad signings just pointing out the money spent on them shouldn't warrant them to be a good Championship standard.
