Jordan pilot. It is time to end this madness.

No sorry but my point was not the beauty of the place(nor Mexico) but the gang warfare, the killings and the manner in which they are carried out

I have had four trips to Brazil, including some coastal road trips. When you find yourself 1000kms from Rio its certainly safer than Southend sea front. I would never say that all the cities are safe, but most murders appear to be gang related. That said when I went clubbing in some of the Rio favelos as guest of the local owners/gangsters they seem to have a good code of honour. It would be beneath them to rob an invited guest. We were in a totally no go area for the police at night. The locals new who we were but I felt like I was in the company of the Krays, circa 1964.

By the way the women are cracking and very cheeky. If you go it might even cure your obsession with Emma Bunton!!

It is widely recognised that ISIS receives a great deal of funding from the Saudi's so they're maybe not such a great ally to have but they lavish the west with colossal sums of cash which makes the west impotent against them. ISIS appear to be a heavily backed group, some of whom have manic tendencies, it would therefore follow that the manic factions require isolating and the more moderate groups will need to be backed in order to achieve this, the outcome may well be some form of caliphate constucted in the area which in itself was a social construct to begin with. Use air power to control the ISIS movements then divide and rule by negotiation and the promise of whatever the moderates (moderate by the values that exist in the region, not by ours) want. In the end there will be a political solution and the horrors witnessed will decrease as the perpetrators themselves will be taken out of the equation by their own side. I hope.

I don't know if that is true, but I did see a Panorama not all that long ago that showed a lot of very anti-west literature in Muslim schools in this country...all allegedly financed by Saudi Arabia.

Some ally.

Blimey, you wouldn't want to be gay in the wrong place.

This is not for titillation nor for gratuitous violence. It is simply to paint a picture of a group so hateful and inhumane that they deserve the recognition. The Islamic State militants have reportedly thrown another gay man off a building, who was then stoned to death after surviving the fall.

New images have emerged that show two masked men hurling the man from a seven-story tower.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights quoted a source as saying the man was killed in the Tal Abyad town in Raqqa, an ISIS stronghold.

The man, who appears to be in his 50s, was charged with having a 'homosexual affair.' He was blindfolded and sat on a white plastic chair while the militants read out his 'judgement' before carrying out the sentence – throwing him from the highest point in the city.

After he unbelievably survived the fall, the townsfolk, including women and children, circled him like vultures then stoned him to death.
It is the fourth execution for alleged homosexuality that the Jihadist group has carried out in the last few weeks.

one thing to remember, and i'm sure Ricey will see where im going with this, The British Army currently has 700 personnel training The Iraqi army everything from basic soldiering through to Counter IED, if we want to win a war in the middle East, yes our Air power is needed, But the fighting on the Ground Simply and plainly HAS to be done by the middle eastern armies, Us and the Yanks are not world police, yer ok the Iraqi's need training in conventional Tactics and ways to counter Terry Taliban and ISIS's favourite weapon, but we simply have to let them fight the ground war themselves,

Well you should. In fact why would you not if this is all based on it.

I don't condemn sharia in Islamic countries because, rightly or wrongly, it is excepted as part of their religious beliefs and religious law and has been for centuries. What I do object to is the suggestion that Muslims should be allowed to practice it outside of Islamic countries and before anyone jumps down my throat, yes I know it hasn't been mentioned in this thread. I have always been of the opinion that if you want to practice religion then carry on but don't false it on me or others who have differing views or beliefs. The punishments according to sharia are barbaric but if you think about it, are designed to be the ultimate deterrent. Woe betide the word of God, if you like.

ISIS are committing unspeakable acts falsely in the name of their God, would any god ask for a ransom to stop his will? You might not like what the Saudis do but at least they do it with religious intent not financial gain as has been the case with the western hostages.

At least its nice to know you agree with the beheading then. Its just the way they are you know, but dare they bring that **** over here we will then judge them by OUR RULES. You can **** on your doorstep but don't tread on mine.

Hypocrisy at the highest level.

If you continue to feed a mad dog, don't be surprised one day when it bites your arse.

You stub your toe or something this morning? You asked me a question and I have given you a honest answer. Why would it be hypocrisy to be against another religion practicing something that the majority of that country would be against? We all know what the consequences of promoting Christianity would be in many Arabic countries, it's completely the same principle.

A tiny percentage I should think - most Muslims living in the West do so because they want to live in a largely Western way.

Around 30% of British born muslims are in favour of the death penalty for Apostasy - ie, a muslim should be put to death for wanting to change his religion or decide to have none at all. The idea that only a tiny percentage of muslims would like to see Sharia law in this country is a bit wide of the mark.

I did find some data on that sort of thing but it's a bit old. I'll post it if you want.

Sharia Law. I wonder what sort of percentage of Muslims in this country would want to see it being practiced here.

Interestingly, this is apparently the theme of Michel Houellebecq's new novel (not available in English yet).

It's set in a futuristic France ( during Hollande's second term) where Sharia law has been imposed on the French state.

Sounds like an infringement of the trade descriptions act to me.
