A Luggy favourite for sure but would only be replacing Granty or Easton in my opinion as surely we have enough centre mids. Can see Granty leaving and if the rumours are true that Easton has been offered a pay cut then maybe he will be off too. Guess it depends on what Di Canio makes of the current swindon players.

Scored a great free kick against Hereford and produced probably the best piece of skill I've ever seen from a Southend player against Morcambe.

I'd happily have him back but I'd also like to retain Easton. I think he's very underrated amongst some of you.

Whilst he's not full of thrills and spills he has a good first touch and is a good passer. We look a weaker side when he's not in the middle.

Disagree with the passing part, if you watch him he gives the ball away an awful lot with his passing. He works hard and is good defensive cover for the back four, but his distribution leaves a lot to be desired. The number of times last season when he worked hard to win to ball back only to put himself and the back four under pressure again with a poor pass was too high in number. For me Timlin is the better player, and he also has set pieces in his locker too.

Agreed, he also allows Kane the chance to get forward. The two of them really work very well together. I'd also see Timlin, if true, as more of a replacement for Grant. Fully expect him to be off.

If we were to lose Grant and gain Timlin we would be a lot weaker side in my opinion

Think when Timlin replaced Easton we lost the bite we had in midfield ,and if I remember rightly we didn,t pick up many points either. When Easton is fit and on form ,one of the few people in the side with the aggressive 100% attitude to get the team going.Sorry on this one I think I would pick Easton .However as replacement for Grant who faded so badly last season possible

Personally I don't see why we have to see Timlin as a replacement for someone, why can't we look upon him as an addition to the squad which would strengthen us and give competition for places in midfield as well as the option of having some better quality on the bench each week. As was proved this season you need depth in a squad to cover injuries and suspensions over the course of what is a marathon.

Possible - a midfield of Easton, Grant and Timlin is quite tasty, with Ferdinand being used in rotation as he develops. Think the question is if any of those 4 would accept not being a first team regular, even Kane now who have progressed rapidly.

I would say carrying 5 supposed first-team central midfielders would be a little excessive for a side in L2. Easton, Timlin, Grant, Ferdinand and Sawyer are all excellent players for this level IMHO but I would reckon one of Granty or Easton will be on the way out if Timlin signs. As a replacement I don't think we could ask for much better.

My guess would be Granty will be off, I think we'll probably compromise with Easton's deal as he's the skipper.

Ye i go along with that. We need more depth in the side, as injuries come and go during the season, to say nothing of players being carded, imo this was a deciding facter in us not keeping up a push for the top 7.

I dont think anyone would argue with that as an ideal situation but taking into account our budget i would say it is highly unlikely

If Luggy chooses to play the 433/451 he was using towards the end of the season, then 5 centre mids in the squad is a minimum for me. Having only 4 means that as soon as 1 guy is injured you will have no additional cover on the bench. I imagine you are correct when you say granty is off, but if that's the case and Luggy is thinking of employing 3 centre mids, then we will need another replacement too!

From Chris Phillips on Twitter a few mins. ago:

Just taken a call from Swindon Advertiser linking Michael Timlin with a return to Roots Hall

Of course they could have got it from here!!!

Chris also says the Timlin story has not come from the Zone.

Could DtS' contact be on to something here...

Makes a change to have a red hot rumour, with a bit of substance for once.

I'm not sure I approve of that sort of rumour on here. Quick, someone start a thread saying they've just played golf with Paul Sturrock and that he said that Freddy Eastwood and Matt Lockwood will be joining within the week.

...and Ray Parlour & Neil Harris are waiting for a phone call.
