Rioting - discuss

Just link the old thread in minus the people scoring points off each other............

Could do that, but it'd be a right pain. Let's just see if we can roll with this one.

Lots of police in Uxbridge today, but no sign of trouble. Yet.

In Manchester a lot of the rioting has moved to the Northern Quarter. For people who don't know Manc, that's the main 'indie' area with lots of independent shops, bars and restaurants. It'll be absolutely devestating for the area, these aren't chains or big business, peoples livelihoods will be destroyed :'(

As was Ealing last night.

patrols in Enfield to ward of looters...rumours of Millwall fans defending Eltham...

Just seen that on Sky, 50-70 people apparently. It's great if they can deter the rioters, but the danger is it just becomes a mass brawl. This'll be a real test of character for the coalition, just hope they're up to it

bloody immigrants coming over here, defending our communities.

hundreds of sikhs defending their temple in southall.

Typical, why can't they integrate and protect us as well?

On a serious note, apparently the word's been given to use rubber bullets. Tough choice, but probably the right one. The world media will have a field day, but that should be a secondary concern

Yeah, damn those pesky Muslims/Turks/Sikhs, showing us how to have a sense of community.

It's actually a great example of how immigration can bring something to the country. We accuse foreigners of not integrating, yet here we see them as community minded, whilst it's the seemingly British population who are rioting.

I seem to recall about 20-30 years back a lady in Wickford's cooker died. Memory's a bit hazey but if I'm correct the owners of the lon wah provided her with meals while she was waiting for the replacement. Again, a sense of community that you do still get in some areas of the country, but seems to be dying out in a lot of the larger conurbations.

2153: Road closures reported in Birmingham. Unconfirmed reports of something happening on the A127 in Southend – looking into that now

Will let you know of updates.

btw, nice to see Adrian who used to be a presenter on Thats Life with Esther Rantzen interviewed earlier,as his restaurants were trashed in Ealing,

Priceless shoes in Basildon town centre http://yfrog.com/h7rg1qwj according to twitter

That's confirmed as being a fake.

There was a small fire in a boat shed at Gloucester Park where youths threw stones as the firefighters extinguished it. The youths ran away when chased.

The fire in the town centre was actually a binbag which quickly went out. Plenty of police in Basildon town centre. No buildings set alight. Currently it's youths name calling and running away.
