Sometimes Some England "Fans" Really do Drag Our Name Through the Dirt

I can believe that. There wasn't many empty seats in a 90,000 capacity stadium.
I thought that watching on TV.The steward said that there was a fella with a crowbar who opened up a gate and loads people poured in.Seems like the security was a complete shambles

Mate at work had a ticket - said he walked through a disabled entrance with no ticket check

The bloke who invaded the pitch has said it was all pre-organised online. They took money to bribe the stewards but didn't need it and estimated 5000 were there unofficially.

Was always gonna happen with the under-capacity of the stadium and the late kick off and the fact pubs were all booking only. In normal circumstances with a sold out stadium, pubs open to all it wouldve been less of an issue. Never understood why the kick off is always so late, guess it wouldve clashed with Wimbledon!

Was listening to Talksport this morning and a steward who was working at Wembley for the final said he thinks there was at least 10000 people in the stadium without tickets

5,000 seems to be the guesstimate of this first hand account. At least I learnt a new word;"jib".

How the rest of the world saw the game.

It’s true, we haven’t covered ourselves in glory, and our problems run a lot deeper than just a football match.

However, before the rest of Europe settle comfortably upon that high horse, I’d be more than happy to remind them of an old English saying about stones & glass houses.

Very true, but then few countries in Europe display that obnoxious air of superiority over others that seems endemic among our ruling classes. And to come down to basics and practicalities, England has shown that is not competent nor capable of running an international tournament in accordance with the norm. Ludicrous drinking laws, not enough police nor properly trained stewards and at the top of the FA incompetent management.

You've missed out the last ingredient - mindless morons that ruin events for the decent vast majority of supporters.

Yes quite right. Every country has them but most countries have the ability, resources and the foresight to crack down on them before the trouble gets out of hand. All the while no town centre in the country is a safe place to be after dark and the hooligan element is free to do what it likes our chances of ever again hosting an international should be zero
