Stadium Name

DAVE ROBINSON ~ 1924-40
Such was the stature of the Scot, Dave Robinson in the history of the club that he had his first testimonial match in 1934, when David Jack came to watch and was persuaded to join the Shrimpers as manager, and his second in 1970. Five foot five but as hard as nails, Dave Robinson joined us from Leeds in 1928 and played 317 games until forced to hang up his boots due to injury in 1940. He went on to become a fixture at Southend being assistant trainer for 13 years under Wilf Copping and Wilf Dixon and on the staff until his retirement in 1970. He was still helping out at the club when he died in 1986 aged 86, having spent nearly 60 years with the club. A minute's silence was observed at the home game immediately after his death.

Dave Robinson's got as much as a claim as Sid Broomfield if you ask me - player, coach, groundskeeper for over 60 years!

the supporters club had forked out just under £75,000 to buy the land and develop the ground. Someone remind us how much Fossetts Farm is likely to cost?

I believe the only thing that hasn't increased in price since then is crack!

In sentiment, though, I would agree with keeping the Sid Broomfield memory.

I really hope that people aren't going to get too upset if we have to assume sponsorship in the name. Well, obviously I realise that they will, but I hope they won't. The stadium won't come for free and if that's what it takes to fund it then so be it from my perspective.

Of course, in an ideal world, I wouldn't be keen. The really sad thing about it is that the same people who would complain if we got sponsored would be the same ones to complain if we didn't and then never had any funds to buy players with.

Think the stadium will be sponsored, that's almost a given certainty in the modern world of football. I still can see it being The Hi-Tec Arena or the Martin Dawn Dome!

Hopefully, some sense of history will prevail and we can name each stand after somebody worthwhile in SUFC history.

I'd also like to see some statues outside in the surrounding concourses etc, Dave Smith, Dave Webb, Steve Tilson, Ron Martin?

Well, I think we can forget the name of the stadium to reflect our thoughts and wishes; it will be sponsored, Ron has already indicated this. So, just who will be lending their name to the complex?

Oliver Trigg, the inspiration for the founding of Southend United, should be honoured.

Sponsorship of the stadium name could possibly bring in up to £1m and I for one am not to worried as to what it may be called if it can bring in that much money to help secure our future as a Championship club.

A block booking of Zoner season cards in the best part of the ground certainly wouldn't go amiss either ;) A thought for the future perhaps.....

have a worrying feeling it might be RBS- the Royal Bank of Scotland stadium in south-east England, anyone? although maybe that would help in signing a few more Motherwell players..

I think alot of the local banking/credit card people will be interested .....Top of that list being RBS or FDR

Absolutely, spot on Mike. Without this man chances are we wouldn't even be having this conversation. There have been many heroes connected with the club down the years but Oliver Trigg is considered by many to have been the founding father of Southend United FC and he most definitely should be remembered in some way.

Not so sure the Marketing bods in RBS HQ in Edinburgh would go for that.
Depends how much autonomy the Credit Card centre management in Southend have! We did well to get the Family Enclosure sponsored by RBS.

I feel whoever it is, it will be probably be someone nobody's even thought about!

i reckon all of us could club togther, loose change from the backs of sofa's and such...

all together now...
