The end of BBC6 Music?

One major family and two characters (forgot Billie).

It doesn't have to be representative of anything, just be good entertainment.

I'd fine with that. EastEnders in the 80s was brilliant. Even EastEnders in the 90s wasn't all bad. Nowadays it's just a load of stage-school kids shouting at each other.

Anyway, we're way off topic. The fact is that they are pouring money into something very average and something which is more than catered for on other channels. The same goes for football.

We can go elsewhere for that, we can't go elsewhere for a specialised music station. Especially as XFM vanished up its own bottom chasing ratings.

Because Milton Keynes is well rough, innit. ;)

Hey I lived in Hackney mate! I know rough!

Doing the maths here, the BBC are looking to cut £600M which apparantly is 20% of their annual budget.

6Music cost £6M to run which therefore is 0.2% of the annual budget of the BBC which will pay for 50% of Graham Norton's salary.

Fortunately these decisions have to go before the BBC Trust so here's hoping they tell Mark Thompson to think again.

My podcast subscription will drop considerably if 6Music did go. Which I would say is a testament to a lot of the fringe shows on there.

Same here.

Indeed. Every other music channel is catered for elsewhere, from the chart pap of Radio 1/2 to dance/R&B/rap of 1Xtra, even Radio 3 has Classic FM.

However what annoys me is the absolute dross that is pumped out on BBC3 (Heroes especially!).

Agree about BBC3. It started out as genuinely innovative, but has turned into a pale imitation of ITV. The biggest TV disappointment in recent years (other than maybe Heroes).

The corporation is infested with bad quality programming, overpaid executives, overpaid "talent" and a political bias towards Labour.

Don't necessarily disagree with any of that, but I have 3 letters for you: ITV.

Taken from the Guardian website:

But BBC Trust chairman Sir Michael Lyons said that if there was a big enough public response about the cuts, he would ask management to rethink its strategy.

Get on it people: Email on my signature.

Gutted. Nobody shall take Guy Garvey's Finest Hour away from me. Nobody!

As we can see, 6 Music is a minute part of the BBC budget. 6Music and the Asian Network are easy targets, in the sense they fufil a certain niche, in the clamour for the BBC to make cuts. Pathetic.

Alan Hansen apparently given a new MOTD contract, £1.4m per year for 4 years

The Masoud family are Asian, Bianaca has a mixed race son, Whtney has a mixed race boyfriend....

So, the Terence Trent D'Arby theory stands up? One black family, one Asian and then more white people than you'd find at a Bobby McFerrin concert.

If EastEnders was as realistic as it claims it would be almost entirely in Urdu with one house of bewildered looking white art students

Sorry for quoting all this again but I'm amazed to see how much more is spent on BBC3 than BBC4, it really is an appalling channel and offers nothing. To think that £115m is spent on it compared to the £71m on BBC4 is shocking.

I watch loads on 4, they have some excellent stuff especially the music programmes on a Friday night. I can't honestly say I've watched anything on BBC3 as it seems to be all Eastenders shown later and '3 pints of lager' continuously repeated. The new 'comedy' shows have been nothing short of diabolical. 'Coming of Age', written by the same person as '3 pints of lager' is absolutely unwatchable.

The BBC should be ashamed by BBC3.

There is loads of good music on other channels if you can swallow your pride and get over a bit of musical snobbery.

I heard a bit of Alexander O'Neal this morning on my clock radio thought I was waking up in Roller City.

I woke up to a bit of Alexander O'Neal this morning on my clock radio.

The thing is you could probably get that on 6, followed by the likes of, say, Mudhoney.

BBC6 is absolutely unique.

The irony is that I was going to get a Digital radio for my birthday in a fortnight expressly for the reason of listening to 6.

Don't think I'll bother now.

Agreed. I'm part of the demographic the BBC are trying to target with BBC3, and the output of that channel is simply embarrassing.

BBC 4 is what my dad claims BBC 2 used to be. Good documentaries, drama and edgy comedy. In the independent today it claims the BBC are planning 'less comedy and entertainment on BBC 4'. Christ, it's a sad day for the beeb. I'd much rather take Charlie Brooker over Coming of Age.

Coming of Age is perhaps the worst thing I've seen on a tv screen, and that's including 2 girls 1 cup. To think this utter horse sh*te is being produced to the detriment of the likes of BBC 4 and 6Music is truly horrific.

I couldn't go back there after falling over while using the urinal. My mum wasn't picking me up until much later so I had to skate round for two hours smelling of **** and with a map of Britain all down my trousers.....bad times :<
