Would you go to a game on your own?

At Southend you are never on your own...Come down take a seat and you are with 7000 friends .....And CS J.

I've gone to away games on my own before. Mainly when I decided at the last minute to go and didn't have time to try and organise anything.

One of the two that spring to mind more than most was the 2-2 away at Swindon when Otto scored THAT goal. I was even on telly celebrating.

The other was the Oxford away win a few years back, when Rawle scored early on. I had a ticket in the main stand, exactly opposite all the other Southend fans. Clive Hart - yeah you all remember him - got me the ticket as a favour.

The problem was that when Rawle scored I jumped up and screamed the main stand down, until I realised I was the only one cheering! I had to withstand plently of abuse from then on, whilst Clive pretended not to know me and sat chatting with Tony Pulis. There was an old couple in front of me that tried to get me thrown out of the half time lounge because I was a Southend fan, but the steward told them where to go and that I was just as entitled to be there as them.

What a great day out that was!

With all these sell out matches ive been to a few on my own this season as some of my mates have got tickets in other areas or have season tickets. All seater stadia ruins socializing at games. I remember the good old days of wandering into the North Bank and knowing there would be loads of people to talk to.
But as someone else said you are never really alone at Roots Hall and soon get talking to someone.

I've been to Roots Hall by myself lots, but always end up chatting to those around me.

Also often go to non league games on my own, but you always get chatting to people there, tends to be very friendly.

I even go to the cinema on my own, no shame in that.

Ed,

agree with you totally there. In fact, as I spend my entire time at the cinema in silence watching the film, I find there's almost no point in going with anyone else!

After all these messages of support to the idea looks like I'm driving up saturday morning. Quite funny that I can drive there n back and get in the game as a student for about the same as going to c an average chelsea game.

I went to Bristol Rovers away on my own afew years back, night game which we lost but cant remember the score. Went to Oxford away afew years ago aswlel on my own. Used to see people there I knew anyway and just ended up sitting with them or having a good conversation with them. Nothing wrong with it!

Have been to games on my own, the last one the Rotherham game a few weeks back. Don't like it tho, makes me feel like a Billy no-mates!

i've been to a few games on my own this season, for me it's about the football and supporting the mighty shrimpers. I enjoy it when i go with mates, but if they are working i don't mind going on my own, the atmosphere is the same whether you are with your mates or on your own.

just means you haven't got any chums?
Not really.

I don't go on my own anyway, but I did occasionally when I was at Uni.

I think the main point here is that this is Southend United and I think everyone would go alone just to see the Blues play if they had to. Rather that than miss out.

Most home matches I go to on my own- living in Chadwell Heath nowadays, most of my mates are Arsenal, West Ham etc. and the other half's family are all West Ham. Everynow and again one of my mates will come along.

I go to all away games alone, but neither once has it felt like it- does feel like part of a big family!

I used to go to most home games by myself, day or night games, which is a bit dodgy as I had to travel from Basildon

I used to go to most matches on my own, but thankfully these days I have company!

It costs me £3 for the previlage

No problem going on my own. A couple of pints, read the programme rather than just casually flick through it & actually watch the game rather any chatting going on during the game. Normally got my 2 boys in tow so normally not solo.

There's Me & UK-Coops down here in Bournemouth, PM me if you're looking to go to a specific game and we'll see what we can sort out. I go to about 8 games a year on average and I'm happy to do my share of the driving. Hopefully catch up with you next week at the Bournemouth match for a beer and a chat.
